Honestly if not for some minor complaints Red Faction Armageddon would be a damn near perfect game. As it is, this is a strong contender for best game of the year for its fantastic mix of intense action, fun character customization that changes how you play the game, great graphics and all around fantastic gameplay experience. Even the minor flaws are easily ignored and most will likely not even notice them, as wrapped up in the game as they will be.
The action does start to drag in the last couple of hours...If you're excited by even the slightest hint of carnage, though, the rubblelicious Armageddon delivers. We absolutely got what we came for: an exciting sci-fi shooter with carnage galore and some of the most crazy-powerful guns we've seen in ages. [June 2011, p.50]
Maybe it's narrowed down to a more linear level progression, story driven kind of game, instead of it's predecessor's successfully huge, GTA like open-world sandbox, but Red Faction: Armageddon is truly one of the most beautiful and mind blowing games that Geo-Mod 2.5 could ever produce, it truly pushed the destructible environment element to it's limits. The plot of the game sticks to the Red Faction franchise origins, even though the addition of alien specimen encounters are core to it's success or failure. The controls are pretty much similar to Guerrilla but with a more enhanced scheme. you'll encouter many Martians through your guns blazin' adventure, but what really makes it enjoyable is how many you'll end up killing in a gameplay through hell and out of it, and with the satisfying set of tools and weaponry, the eye-popping environment destruction and intensity through it all just makes it an addictive master piece you'll regret not experiencing. Overall, it's disappointing to most fans of the series, yet it's an amazing spin off towards the potential better development of the franchise.
This game is amazingly fun. It may not have the longest campaign but it is very fun. The enviroments re varied enough that they don't get boribg and infestation mode just adds to the already amazing campaign. Its a must buy for everyone!
Although too linear and unrelated with the previous Red Faction: Guerrilla Games, it is a fun, intense and frantic game which is sometimes espectacular, with a great physics engine that allows dynamical destruction of the environments, although the game not always makes the most of it.
Although Armageddon excels in the destruction stakes, combining it with some adrenaline-pumping action and cool special abilities, it leaves you feeling empty with its less-than-enthralling story – well less-than-interesting really – and level after level of tedious objectives.
With Red Faction: Armageddon I got the sense that Volition was really excited about creating a few segments and merely obliged their responsibility to fill in the gaps. There was nobility to be found in breaking the core design away from the success of Guerrilla, but the shift in dynamic ultimately irrelevant in the final product. Armageddon can be fun, but its linearity casts it alongside other (and better) games rather than a bold new direction for the series.
Although the game has its merits, like an impressive environmental destruction, Volition's choice to turn the title into a pure third person shooter doesn't seem to have paid off the way it should have. A poor narrative and an excessive linearity are in fact two flaws that can hardly be ignored.
Red Faction: Armageddon is a perfectly functional third-person shooter, but there's nothing at all to recommend it. The design is incoherent on its own merits, even more so in the context of the series, and the narrative fares even worse.
This game is amazing! The campaign, whilst not being the longest, is varied and fun enough to never get boring. Then there is the infestation mode which just adds to the games life. This is a definite must buy for any fans of 3rd person shooters.
Red Faction Armageddon is a step down from Guerrilla, but is still a pretty good,if unoriginal, shooter.
Armageddon is linear, unlike Guerrilla's **** destruction has been refined though.Armageddon's gameplay is solid, with new toys to help you stop the alien invasion.
The game can feel very repetitive at times, with the same objectives and waves and waves of the same enemies.
The graphics are pretty good, but the framerate can drop sometimes.
The sound effects are great, particularly the **** the soundtrack is quite poor.
The game isn't very long **** will last around 7 to 9 hours.
Overall,Red Faction Armageddon is a relatively enjoyable shooter that can scratch your destructive itch.
Just don't expect a long or original game.
Basically if they had the gameplay and made it open world exactly like guerrilla but also adding aliens, it would be an easy nine.
Pro:
Geo Mod 2.
Weapons, especially that magnet gun.
Repair function.
Good story nothing special but an improvement on G.
Good voice acting.
Fun.
Atmospheric.
Cons:
Bad soundtrack.
6 hrs long?
Linear.
It took underground where fewer buildings are, so what's the point of having a destruction built engine?
Boring the second time.
Look, I didn't play this game for long, so I cant comment on the whole experience, but from what I played, wow what a stinker! I picked it up during the drought in early to mid 2011 was seriously unimpressed with the graphics and being ushered down a narrow corridor. There are vastly superior shooters available, there is a reason the franchise has been discontinued. (the game ****)
This game was a far cry from Red Faction: Guerrilla. It was waaaay too linear and just took Red Faction back to the days of a start-to-finish shooter. SNORE.
