2016’s Battlefield 1 was a refreshing revisit to the first World War that introduced new elements to the genre. Battlefield V refines some of those features, but doesn’t break any new innovative ground. It has enough content to keep you occupied, possesses a decent progression system that keeps you invested, and will receive free future DLC without a whiff of loot crates or microtransactions. However, it follows an expected blueprint that may quickly grow stale for players looking for a fresh FPS experience.

Battlefield V is another fun entry in this well established shooter series. The problem is that it's full of bugs and feels unfinished at launch.

Who knew that the horrors of war could ultimately end up being so goddamn beautiful?

Ripe with potential but riddled with problems, the new Battlefield will be brilliant six months from now. Right now, however, it’s merely a good shooter. [Issue#157, p.83]

EA and DICE seem to have lost sight of what made this series a true contender for the FPS crown, and both the gameplay and the content are suffering as a result.

DICE almost always delivers when it comes to technology and multiplayer gameplay, and this is true with BFV. But Battlefield V is also plagued with bugs, looks half-finished and, overall, it gives the impression of a product that was rushed to the market.

A game that aspires to be both a legitimate portrayal of war and an entertaining video game, but opts to take the easy route and do rid with any semblance of mature, balanced storytelling and instead replaces it with a rushed, disjointed campaign and a multiplayer component that’s getting seriously long in the tooth.

Despite all the controversy, the game is very good.
I think games should be evaluated as games.

Don't let the user score fool you, this is a very good battlefield game. This game is exactly what we as the gaming community need - PLEASEDon't let the user score fool you, this is a very good battlefield game. This game is exactly what we as the gaming community need - PLEASE give it a chance.

Give this game a chance and you'll find:

    - Fantastic game modes (with more to come) - Grand Operations, where you play 3 separate battles over one game, is a wonderful addition.
    - Immersive, tasteful and atmospheric sounds and music
    - Fantastic gameplay - weapons feel really nice with only (at this point) minor need for some tweaks.
    - A commitment to deliver free, ongoing content that will add more to what is already a really good initial offering.

And really that's the main reason why I'm writing this review. I've never reviewed anything before in my life. Trust me, the game is worth buying because EA/DICE have come up with a really good model that should be rewarded. They've started this game with the battlefields of early WW2. This sees the British and Germans fighting over North Africa, Holland, Belgium etc. They're going to be constantly releasing content (maps and some game modes to come) that brings more and more content into the game, chronologically expanding with the theatres of the war. It's so disappointing that EA/DICE are being bashed over having female characters in a game at all. It's even more disappointing because this game is doing SO MANY THINGS that we as a community have been crying out for - no more paid DLC and community segmentation, pay for the game once and get continued content and support, new and fresh game modes etc... We need to be rewarding this as a community.

The game isn't perfect but no game is. The progression system could be better, for example. But it's FUN, it feels good and they're going to keep improving it. Historical accuracy? In a game series where a syringe cures all bullet wounds? It's a video game not a documentary, get a grip!

However the woman are really annoying and don't fit the setting.
Woman should not be in any army and definitly not in a WW2 game. The campaign is really disappointing. And im missing the russian. It seems like dice have no clue about history and ww2.

I was really looking forward to a new WW2 shooter, but this game really did not build on what I thought BF1 did well. The map rotation is poor and it seems I only ever see the same maps over and over again. The worst part of this game is aircraft, by far it is the most unrealistic aspect of the game. Planes are able to survive almost endlessly due to repairing themselves. Not only do they get to repair themselves, but they can continually pick up more repair resources. This makes it impossible to shoot them down without 2-3 anti-aircraft guns. In addition it seems like weapons don't deal the amount of damage that they should. Expand
