This is a superb choice if you’re looking to immerse yourself in something fantastical, slay some insidious foes and lose yourself for an afternoon or two.
The Chronicles of Teddy is an absolutely fantastic game despite these flaws. I loved every moment of the charming, musical platformer. Each facet of the game, even if its lifted from another genre, come together to create what is easily one of the most unique Indie games available for the PlayStation 4. You owe it to yourself to at least give this game a good try.
Definitely a mix between Zelda 2 on NES, Metroid/Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest, and Fez.
It gels well and makes you think with the musical aspect.
So far pretty fun
Chronicles of Teddy: Harmony of Exidus is a 2D Platformer "Metroidvania" game developed by Storybird Games. You play as a little girl and your objective is to save the magic world of Exidus that has been corrupted by an evil sorcerer called Anguis.
On your journey you explore 4 different huge open maps, with lots of secrets and things to do. Each map has a Castle in the end with a boss that you need to defeat in order to find Anguis.
Your main equipment is a Sword, Shield and your Tunic. As you play you can upgrade some of those things and unlock new abilities like double jump and walljump for example.
The most unique thing about this game is the Musicom, some sort of musical instrument that you use to interact with the world and the NPCs. The Musicom is used to form worlds to talk with the characters and to interact with other secret things. As you play you can find new "musical notes" for the Musicom to form new words, and as you talk with the characters you will be learning their language.
The game also has a cute pixel art style and a great soundtrack, most of the time relaxing musics that sets the mood for each world.
Chronicles of Teddy to me was an awesome experience. When I bought this game I couldn't stop playing it until I reached 100% completion. The game is very well done, great gameplay that keeps you wanting to come back to the lovely world of Exidus for new adventures.
I recommend this game to any fan of 2D Platform and Metroidvania games, and for people that like 8-bit/16-bit games. This game have lots of things to offer and will keep in my memory as one of the best games of this genre.
This is a huge, gorgeous adventure by any reasonable standards, and while retro gamers will probably get a kick out of it more than anyone, it’s not content to rest on its laurels and exploit nostalgia. For every way it recalls classic titles like Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, Teddy doles out a few original ideas of its own. Excellent level design, a number of fun-to-use items and the creative “Musicom” system, which lets you communicate with NPCs using music, prove that LookAtMyGame’s wonderful little indie goes beyond its inspiration.
LookAtMyGame has created one of the best surprises of 2016 so far. Chronicles of Teddy: Harmony of Exidus is a gorgeous title that is very rewarding, even if it doesn't make the best first impression.
Chronicles of Teddy is a pretty cool game. The reward of discovery is well worth the trip, and with some tweaks here and there, Chronicles of Teddy could have been one of the best releases of 2016. As it stands, it is still a gorgeous title worthy of your time.
IMO: 9.0/10.0 (MUST PLAY!)
Gameplay: Metroidvania/Zelda2 utiliting Ducktales/Zelda2 downward strike.
Audio: Nice music and event/character sounds throughout.
Controls: Simple, and highly recommend utilizing R1/L1 to sprint as this is not taught by the game but by experimentation.
Pros:
-Gorgeous retro visuals and sounds
-Exploration
-Does not hold you hand to explain where to go/what to do. Speak with all NPCs in each world to figure out what to say to Guardians.
-Challenging platforming and puzzles
-New Game+ challenge
Cons:
-Multiple strikes by a single enemy in succession will take a lot of health away which cannot be avoided. Annoying and aggravating
-Boss patterns need to be learned, BUT boss #3 was a cheap fight the devs need to fix its randomization, and boss #4 gives no tells on how to fight without looking online or experimenting with numerous deaths
Excellent mix between Wonderboy and Zelda. Cool bosses, great level design, the upgrading mechanics are nice, full of secrets, pretty sweet OST, perfect platforming gameplay and lovely retro graphics. A really nice game if you miss PC Engine/SNES era.
Chronicles of Teddy: Harmony of Exidus
A gorgeous game that I will never finish.
Chronicles of teddy is the sequel to Finding Teddy
in fact it was released on pc as finding teddy 2
This is a 2d pixilated puzzle platformer with a bit of a twist
To progress through the game you have to learn a new language…
Listen to the characters that inhabit the world to learn new words and use your lexicon to speak with guardians and doors in the world…
Every door has its own password…
To be able to play words back though, you must find runes…
And along your way are pits, and enemies that drop marbles.. You can collect these marbles from enemies or hidden chests and use them to buy weapon and health upgrades…
At the end of the worlds you’ll take on an awesome boss….
I was in love with this game…
during my time playing….
And then it broke my heart…
This game doesn’t auto save.
I repeat...
This game doesn’t auto save.
I was on the 2nd boss which is about 1/3 of the way through the game.
I sat down on a single day… figuring out all of the puzzles and words… exploring the beautifully designed locations... getting cool abilities like a raft to deal with water, and wings for a double jump…
im on this 2nd boss…
I’m about to sing a song to open its teeth and end his life…then the game crashes.
I lose all… every single bit of my progress…
all 5 hours of play time down the drain…
I booted up the game again and it was like I never played before
my file was nonexistent.
And as I said this is a puzzle platformer... this game is challenging...
it takes a lot out of you...
This isn’t something you can just cruise through…
at least not your first time
and I just didn’t have it in me to pick back up.
How a game is released in 2015 and again in 2016 with no auto save is beyond me
I understand wanting to create something retro... but game saves isn’t something to be hipster about…
Chronicles of Teddy is a gorgeous and unique game well worth your time and money
but please, save every 30 minutes... your sanity will thank you later.
I give chronicles of Teddy Harmony of Exidus
a
7/10
