Overall it is hard not to be impressed with what Turtle Rock have achieved here, as Evolve is truly unlike anything available at the moment. Its no-nonsense approach is a breath of fresh air, and while the steep learning curve may force some gamers out of the loop early, those who remain will help form the core experience of the game in the months to come - a version of natural selection if you will.

With its balanced class-based, teamwork orientated gameplay, great graphics and slick mechanics that keep you playing into the wee hours of the night, Evolve itches that competitive urge and feels a lot more evolved that your standard, run-of-the-mill shooter.
  3. Evolve has nice graphics and atmosphere, but you may be bored because of long matchmaking times and some bugs. Nevertheless, it is quite fun to play with friends.

Evolve is, in the ideal environment, enjoyable, a game that offers a really interesting experience. However, that environment is hard to attain and weighs down a risky idea, where we miss more content in the form of game modes and where solo mode is, in short, unnecessary.
  5. 75
Evolve has a hint of greatness, but a lack of content at launch and a jarring amount of premium launch and planned DLC hold it back. What we have here is an evolution of the Left 4 Dead formula, not a revolution.

Evolve has rare highs hidden amongst tedious lows. When the title hits its stride, it is easy to see why it was designed in this way

No actual campaign and focus on four players and one monster feels fresh only for a while. Currently, the constant repetition simply becomes boring, and interesting content fills only a couple of evenings.

Rabid anti-DLC keyboard warriors have unnecessarily targetted Evolve. As far as the game goes, it looks amazing, plays great, and the characters are diverse. It never gets old because of all of the ways you can toy with opponents and strategize evading or hunting them. As far as the dlc drama goes, the expansion monsters and hunters are not necessary at all since TRS makes sure everything is balanced to a 50% win rate. The prices are the same you'd pay for a map pack in other games only this time, a monster or a hunter changes the gameplay way more than a lousy map pack would and are worth it, but again not necessary. Also, all new maps and modes will be free as the dev has taking great care to ensuring the commmunity stays unfragmented.

Going back to the game, once you cut through the lies fed by this angry internet mob, TRS is incredibly open about this amazing game that I have no doubt will keep me entertain for a long long time. I personally love playing the monster but all of the classes are so fun that I don't mind any role. It's for both the solo and team player in all of us. If you get tired of online, the solo play is AMAZING with very good bots.

Try out Evacuation Mode if you get bored with regular matches. Ty out "individual" with a buddy if you want to make it even more lasting, editing the maps at your wims. Or even play solo.

To all the cry babies in regard to DLC - the season pass could have been added separately and each and everyone wouldn't have cried as much as they do now. Aside from the ingame (purely cosmetic) shop, the prices are the same as with every other game. Take Borderlands e.g. - main game + season pass = same results (or near).

This is the 1st game i have thoroughly enjoyed playing every class. I have noticed afew balancing issues so far but they have already acknowledged the problem and are working on it. As for the whole DLC problem everyone has it really isn't that bad, they have skin DLC but that's optional and apart from that we have only heard about the behemoth and 4 hunters which costs £35 also to note they did say they are giving the maps free. A game of admirable ambition that fails to deliver the goods.

The concept of Evolve, of a team of player-controlled Hunters taking on a player-controlled Monster in asymmetrical multiplayer bouts, is a great one. That's why it's such a shame that Evolve stumbles like it does.

First and foremost, the gunplay is really quite floaty, and lacking in visceral punch and feedback. This is an aspect taken for granted in many of the top shooters of the day, and it sticks out like a sore-thumb in Evolve. The Hunters are relatively well-designed, most with unique and interesting tools at their disposal. Unfortunately, the weak gunplay renders a lot of these cool ideas moot.

Graphically, the game is very drab. I'm cool with a dark atmospheres, but the environments of Evolve just feel dead, and lacking imagination. The game is far from smooth, performance-wise, and framerate can be an annoyance.

Nowadays, in 2017, it can be difficult to find online matches, making the purchase of the game at any price a very questionable decision. The highly-publicized DLC controversy certainly didn't help in this regard. Even so, Evolve is not as bad as many would have you believe. It's not a good game -- even less so now with annoyingly-long matchmaking times -- but neither is it a complete abomination. It's a game brimming with good ideas that just weren't executed upon. Overall, it really feels like the game was rushed out-the-door.

Had a sequel been greenlit, I'm fairly certain the developers would've delivered a game worthy of Evolve's launch-hype. Unfortunately, with the disaster that was the launch and reception of Evolve, we may never see the promising ideas of Evolve realize their potential.

Then you play another match of the same thing and you get bored, really bored. Considering the outrage from 'destiny's' lack of story and repetitive nature, i fully expect this game to get destroyed by the user reviews because it has those same flaws on an almost unbelievably more massive scale . After playing this game a few hours, i seriously thought i was missing the 'real' game mode or something and kept searching through the main menu to no avail. Then came to the conclusion this is a 20 dollar arcade title at BEST. Seriously, it should have been an online free-to-play title with micro-transactions for dlc. Considering it already has micro-transactions for dlc it left me wondering WHAT THE HELL I PAID 60 DOLLARS FOR ? Expand

Oh man, I wanted to like this game. It has a great premise and had lots of potential. But there are simply too many things wrong with it. There is very little content, plus the parts that are actually entertaining and engaging are episodic at best. Even trying to connect to the multiplayer is beyond frustrating with players disconnecting when they don't get the role they want. But even so - why can there only be one of each character class (Assault, Support, Trapper, Medic) per team? I see absolutely no reason why players can't just choose their preferred class.
Also: Day 1 DLC? You have got to be joking.

Tl;dr - very good premise, very poor execution. Don't buy.

    UPDATE: This game is dead.

Read the forums on 2k's website. Go, google 2k Evolve forums, and you'll see that someone posts... maybe once a month. Go to Steam, look at the stats, 161 people playing during PEAK times on Steam. Less than 200 people playing worldwide... at peak times.

Let's move onto WHY it is dead:
Director says its going to be free to play, franchise gets transferred to 2k. They claim there will be no DLC at release. Okay... $200 DLC at release

Bad broken poorly executed gameplay. Bugs, bugs, bugs. Invincible shields, spawning as a random critter incapable of attacking. I've fallen through the ground countless times.

Each update makes the game worse, as if they had a complete game that they took parts out, polished the rest, and with every piece they put back, new issues arise. I especially dislike how the framerate can sometimes drop to 1 for no reason... on a console. The acknowledged bug list went two months after release without being updated. This is the most critical time to let the community know you're working hard on bug squashing, instead the bug list went completely ignored... for two months. Please tell me how they're supposed to fix bugs if they're not even acknowledging them. It gets worse...

And you're like, well the game is only a year old, surely they're going to keep working on it... No. Just no, because Turtle Rock has already begun hiring for a new unannounced IP that will NOT have anything to do with Evolve. A year later and the developers have already abandoned this game.

I spent $85 on this game at release, $60 for the game and $25 for the season pass, not including tax. Three months later I traded it into Gamestop for $8. The cashier said, "I'm surprised you lasted this long".
I bought a box of cat litter and I watched my cat **** into it. This is Evolve.
