Featuring some of the most engaging platforming, combat, and exploration this generation, Guacamelee! 2 excels as a videogame, full stop. Its visuals are at times mesmerising, rooting its aesthetic in traditional Mexican art; the core gameplay loop has a low skill floor and a high skill ceiling, encouraging mastery of the mechanics; and the script irons out the kinks of the first game's story in order to offer a more compelling narrative with a stronger comedic identity. Guacamelee! 2 is without a doubt one of the strongest Metroidvanias in recent memory.

Guacamelee! 2 does basically everything else right, and arguably better than a lot of other Metroidvania games on the market. Its core gameplay is tremendous, building off the original and feeling like a true step forward.

More abilities, more zany humour, and crucially, more chickens make this a winner winner. [Oct 2018, p.78]

Guacamelee 2 is a beautiful and delightful game that can proudly wear a Metroidvania medal. With its fantastic humour it will be a delight for multiple people, but the game can feel a little bit too long when you are near the end.

Bigger rarely means better, but Guacamelee 2 entertainingly proves the exception to the rule. [Nov 2018, p.108]

Only a small improvement on the first game but this is still one of the most original Metroidvanias around, in terms of both its setting and its gameplay.

Guacamelee! 2’s penchant for self-deprecating humor often functions as an acknowledgement and dismissal of its own issues. Why yes, it is awfully convenient that I’ve suddenly been pulled into an alternate timeline in which I must save the world in roughly the same manner as my last go, but no, Guacamelee! 2 doesn’t stop being an uncharacteristically halfhearted rehash just because the writers scored a few easy laughs from it.

None the less, I found myself challenged and stimulated throughout my Mexiverse adventure. I especially liked the Picolo enemy! Expand

Be aware of it being more difficult too. Reactive commands, punchy fights, humoristic tone overall, the game will demand a lot of you but it is so much fun. I played it in coop from the beginning to the end, and the work brought to this aspect is just neat. Boss fights could have been more challenging (thinking of Hollow Knight or Metroid Dread for example). A really good game overall, given the difficulty is not too harsh of an obstacle for you. Expand

All problems were transferred from the first part. Some moments are stupidly used as in dark souls. Only if you do such hardcore do it throughout the game, and not the whole game, banal tests and at certain moments jerkily. As some users who have played here wrote, you really hate the developers for such stupid decisions and after spending 20 hours on the game you understand that you killed 10 hours to repeat the same thing and what causes you only aggression and even after overcoming, the opinion remains that I will never play this again and I will not recommend this game to anyone.
