Outlast 2 could well be the scariest horror game I have played to date. There were a few very minor gripes, but the isolation, desolation, and desperation were noticeable throughout. The sense of fear was more impactful than in the first game, and there were parts where I played hiding behind anything I could get my hands on. I went to Temple Gate, and I did not enjoy my stay. And by that statement alone, I have to applaud Red Barrels for creating such a brilliant game.

Outlast 2 is a good horror experience, but feels frustrating and too linear in some gameplay moments.

Even after 13 hours of gameplay Outlast 2 continues to be a frightening experience. The game has some design problems, of course, but the flaws are forgiven when you get a true survival horror atmosphere all the way to the end.

Outlast 2 is sadistic and violent without being subtle about it. Fear is not beneath the skin; it just hits you in the head like a hammer. It's not perfect, but it is great.

Outlast II is a good game, if it does exactly as you please. Unfortunately, that is not always the case which makes for a very frustrating game.

Outlast 2 has some great design elements, and the night-vision handy-cam mechanic is still scary. But the jump scares and gore don't mix right with the elements of psychological horror, and the story retreads horror tropes that didn't need retreading.

Red Barrels's game is an immature and hateful slight at anyone who dares to believe in a divine creator.

I played same 10 hours on this game, on normal (as my son advised me that Outlast games are really hard on hard).
A- GRAPHICS- The game looks beautiful. Textures are very detailed. Frame rates are high. The atmosphere created submerses you into the game (also, it's half the price of an AAA game- it is as nice as RE7- leave the VR aside).
B- STORY- This is not a game for kids or teenagers. The subjects on the games are reserved for Adults. I found it compelling so far, though I anticipate the ending will not reveal everything.
C- Game play. Unlike RE7, you never feel safe, there is no safe room or weapons to protect you. That is thrilling. Mechanics are great and I haven't find a bug. Also, there is a lot of trial and error, so be ready to die several times reasonlessly. Also, I understand people complaining about the game being repetitive however I do not feel that way about the game.

It's an intense ride from start to finish with an interesting story and horrific monster designs. The switch between real world and otherworld gives the game an old Silent Hill kind of vibe, something that I've missed very dearly. The bandages, limited running endurance, and improved AI gives the game the depth that it's predecessors lacked. The areas give you just enough signposting to keep you going on the right track. With the new Story Mode update, there's no reason to miss out on this amazing experience. Expand

Unfortuently this really made the game frustrating when you get to the middle section of the game which takes place in the forest and there is little to no clear direction a lot of the time with an enemy that can attack you from a ranged distance. there were parts in this section of the game that were so frustrating that I wanted to quit the game entirely and the worst part was that this section of the game I didn't find scary at all and it took me about 2 hours or so until this part was over with. on a positive note, I loved how the game implemented some psychological horror into the game, and created some of the games best moments. when the game was scary, it was really scary. I didn't find the characters as memorable as the first game unfortuently and that was kind of a bummer but I still felt atleast two of the main bad guys for lack of a better term were pretty intimidating, with one of them being very forgettable to me, but I appreciate that they tried something different with this character. the story was kindof a mess, because unless your reading the files and notes you pick up, your gonna be left very confused by the end, and even if you do understand whats going on, I felt that the story was underwhelming in the same way a story about how in the end it was all just a dream is underwhelming, it has a similar thing going on. over all I was kind of disspaointed in the game as a whole, but the game was really scary most of the time and I really appreciate the developers for taking risks even though they didn't all pay off, and I think it is a game worth playing if you were a fan of the first game, but maybe wait for a discounted price. The terribleOutlast II is a running simulator with hardly any necessary hiding, and with no sense of direction on where to run or escape to. The terrible design and lack of proper direction of where to escape often ruins any enjoyment to be had with the game, since that's all it really is. Also, your battery life is way too short, often dying within 2 minutes when using night vision in order to even see most of the time, and your guy doesn't run fast far enough before getting exhausted and outrun by whoever is chasing you. The game is too hard, in the worst possible way. The whole thing is just cheap. There are a couple good scares here and there like in the school, but most of it is just pure frustration. Not as good as Outlast 1. Expand
