Aug 5, 2020It doesn’t offer anything new in “old school” regards, but the solid run-and-gun gameplay paired with two cracking soundtrack options should appeal to the curious.

Jul 20, 2020Just being able to play this once cancelled, long forgotten game, it’s fantastic. This 16-bit action game created by DICE has aged, but it still brings back all the fun from a time when games were different.

Jul 7, 2020With a wave of retro-inspired games released, it seems only fitting that an actual retro game finally gets some needed attention after all these years. Ultracore is like a time capsule of what made this genre so fun and addicting, however, the platforming mechanics didn’t age as well as the shooting action. Still, it’s clear from the first moments that this release was a labor of love and I am glad to have finally had the opportunity to play it.

Aug 3, 2020UltraCore has a truly amazing backstory and definitely has an audience in 2020. Although some platforming sections would have needed more time in the oven, the game is a solid run'n gun for the dedicated fans of the genre, with the appeal of an unreleased Mega Drive game.

Jul 10, 2020After spending twenty six years stewing in a dark vault, Dice's lost 16-Bit shooter now gets the airing it deserves. Ultracore is a worthy run'n'gun retro experience with some great visuals, music and gameplay. Yet, some aging aspects of the game do get in the way of a good time and demonstrate reasons why this game was lost for so long in the first place. While it can frustrate, it is still one i would recommend to play if you grew up with the Mega Drive.

Jul 16, 2020So how do I review something that I can barely play? I suppose I can start by not recommending it as that section is so brutally unfair that it’s not fun. It’s been a long time since I’ve gotten frustrated at a game but this game got me there. I am disappointed because this game was really cool until that point and I am sure it is really cool afterwards too but I’m not going to sit there and bash my head against something that clearly puts luck over actual skill.
