This is my favorite game ever made. If it wasn't for this, I would not be the gamer that I am today. The character designs are cool, the levels are so creative, the story is simple, but fun, and the voice acting is top notch. But being able to capture your enemies and play as them is the coolest thing I have ever seen. I can't imagine any game being able to just let me have so much fun like this game. That's what this game is, fun. I don't think I will ever love any game more than this one, it is that special.
My absolute favorite game. I think that every part of Skylanders is an absolute masterpiece, but this one is my favorite. Unfortunately, the prices of the figures are very high and the entire gameplay is a rip-off. However, it remains a part of my childhood.
The abundance of inventive and genuinely fun characters, and the inclusion of playable villains, means there’s always some amazing new trick to try. The new versions of Skystones and tilting lock puzzles are fun enough that I’d play them by themselves. On the downside, there’s nothing new here for your existing Skylanders, and the overall story just fails to come together.
A strange kind of beast. Its level design is as strong as ever and the villain trapping gimmick is a strong addition with some great gameplay implications. At the same time, the character designs are getting tired.
Skylanders: Trap Team brings enough new tricks to keep Activision’s cash cow entertaining for another year, but we sense that there may need to be some more meaningful changes next time around.
I'm not gonna lie, when "Skylanders: Trap Team" was first announced, I wasn't really all that excited. While the game certainly looked like another fun "Skylanders" affair, I worried that the series would steer too far into the "standard" territory, where it just felt like "another year, another game." Fortunately, "Trap Team" has enough charm and wit to keep me coming back.
"Skylanders: Trap Team" retains the fun gameplay that made the "Skylanders" series so fun for me in years past. It still controls well, the pacing is rock-solid, the game is accessible and visually, it's fantastic. "Swap Force" already had great visuals, and this time around, it's no different: they're bright, colorful and nice on the eyes. The new Skystones Smash mode is also a lot of fun, there's a LOT of content to unlock in the game, and I'm not gonna lie, the feeling of being able to trap a villain is pretty neat and fun overall. Not only that, but the villains you can trap are pretty humorous and charming.
I can't lie, though, despite some nice, minor changes to the game, this doesn't feel that much different from previous "Skylanders" games, and it's definitely not the evolution to the series that "Swap Force" was. Beyond that, some of the big problems do add up overtime: the removal of certain game modes, the overpowering of newer characters making the game feel a bit imbalanced, and the more obnoxiously toyetic nature of this game, definitely serve as annoyances for me.
All in all, though, "Skylanders: Trap Team," while not the strongest entry in the "Skylanders" series, is still a solid and fun entry that's definitely worth it if you're a Skylanders fan.
Final rating: 8 out of 10 "Great"
Nice game, really fun, it's easy to play, you will love to have more figures and traps to continue living this magical world! Give it a chance to play with your family. The problem is that is an expensive experience if you pretend to have all the characters and DLC.
It’s a very basic and mediocre entry in the series. It’s fun but not all too ground breaking. It’s a decent game but doesn’t hold up as good as other entires.
Bought the game for my 8yrs old plus a 10+ toys.
Bad choice! 2 wks and he's bored as hell.
Finished the game. Maxed out the all the characters. and *threre's nothing else to do* - replayabiliy element is MINIMAL.
nothing more to buy, he has max money on all toys. played the story 3 times. arenas are repetive and boring. the so called secret zones give rewards that you have nothing to do with (ie. more money).
simply one of the worst thought games for kids ever - toddlers maybe - but kids are smart.
put some effort into it Activision. something of a random levels, challenges, adventure modes, more items, something to do with the ingame money...
3 stars out of 10 and I am generous. for something that burned my pocket like 5 full games = I wished I have not even bought the initial starter pack...
While Toys for Bob, the makers of this years Skylanders game have taken all the great changes that Vicarious Visions brought to the series with last years Skylanders Swap Force, they have sadly not been able to keep the high quality of last years release.
The first and most important thing is that the figures are lackluster, and there are only a few figures that is somewhat interesting. On-top of that, the most interesting of the figures are not in toy versions but trap monsters, meaning that you get some dull crystal and not a cool toy that you can play with as well.
The addition of minis is great, but they are just 100% exact copies of their normal sized version with a high pitched voice.
Last years release almost felt like a animated movie all way through, with great voice acting and animations, and while the voice acting is great this time around as well, the animations are very stiff and it seem like they handed over that job to some interns (its very bad).
The level design is in most parts great, with the great art style of swap force. The hub is much bigger and better than Skylanders Giants, but it randomly introduces new areas that you cannot enter or are empty, without telling you what they are for or what you need to use them, so you spend a lot of time trying to find things to interact with that simply doesn't exist yet.
The biggest turn off (and the reason for this score) is that multiplayer is UNPLAYABLE. I only buy the skylander games for multi-player with my kid, and the last 3 releases have been great for this.
This time around every time someone dies, the other person dies, you are constantly being teleported to each other and that also causes deaths, and as you get too far from each other you get a rubber-banding effect that causes deaths as well. Its frustrating and we are not playing together, but in turns because of this.
All in all, if you are looking for a game for your kids to play, or you to play with your kids i would recommend that you skip out on this years release. If you are new to the series you could buy last years Swap Force, that is not only a better game but also at this point in time much cheaper.
