I do think that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will mean more to people who have played Breath of the Wild, and that's fine. For Zelda fans, there's no way they haven't played it anyway. For Musou fans coming to Age of Calamity from that angle, the sell's a little harder. The narrative that it weaves are great. The presentation is impeccable, and each and every one of the characters are fun to play with. It's just that where the original Hyrule Warriors felt like a love letter to the history and heritage of Zelda, Age of Calamity is more immediate, and that's just a little less of a celebration, though with the tradeoff being it actually contributes to the lore. For me, that's a worthwhile tradeoff, and I didn't even have the assumed knowledge going in.
This battle-hardened prequel is able to scratch an itch that its source material couldn't. [Issue #50 – January/February 2021, p. 75]

Everything Breath of the wild should've been and actually enables you to care about the champions. Music is far better, exploration is so much more satisfying, combat is amazing and especially considering as weapons don't break.
Weapon levelling is a nice addition and makes for some interesting perks and abilities. Character combos are actually amazing, even on the low levels. Characters I thought were annoying in Breath of the wild were actually awesome in this. Only grip is that there wasn't any deployability after finishing everything on the map unlike the first Hyrule warriors where illustration pieces which were unlocked by killing skulltalas would open up the illustration map which would have more stages / bonuses / outfits and weapons as well as characters to unlock.

A great musou game that also comes with an excellent story that completes what we knew from Zelda: Breath of the Wild. The only comebacks of this game are some technical issues and the things that come with this game's genre, and even with that is a great game.
If the name "The Legend of Zelda" means a lot to you, and you can have fun with musou-style games, then Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will not disappoint. Overall it is of the best games Omega Force has ever done with fast-paced and deep gameplay combined with some really great music.
As one of the better Musou spin-off games out there, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is a welcome treat for Breath of the Wild fans. Its gameplay remains expectedly repetitive but there's still a ton of fun to be had with its variety of combat abilities.
At its best, Age of Calamity keeps a weak grip on 30 frames a second, and at its most visually chaotic, the game effectively becomes a slideshow.
The best Dynasty Warriors style game ever made, which means it’s slightly north of mediocre, with simplistic combat, weak storytelling, and a whole lot of repetition.
Amazing game! People who compare this to BoW are simply stupid. The gameplay and design is very different but works perfect.This game is in a Musou style. I had a blast slashing through the hoards of monsters. As always incredible visuals,cutscenes and above all music. I got to the end after 65 hours but I did everything. Had lots of fun. The story is great also. No frame drops, no problems. Don’t believe the hate . Again don’t go expecting BoW. But expect a wonderful experience.

its fine and i see the apeal but it tries to manage 2 things at once and they dont work together
its a good enough game and not bad to play but i dont really see my self playing it again unless i just want to have a bite sized warriors mission with my favorite girl

The boss is not easy to kill, you need to use the staff and props to destroy the shield. It increases the challenge of the battle. The story complements the part that is not mentioned in Breath of the Wild.

Less content than HW1, fewer game modes than HW1, and less rich character gameplay than HW1. Zelda is insufferably complaining at almost evry cutscene. The scenario is without interest and isn't really a prequel to BotW.

The game is fun for a couple of hours, and then it gets boring (at least for me). I’m a big fan of Zelda franchise and i really love fighting games, so i though that this game will be perfect for me! It wasnt, the game takes 10-15 hours to finish, the plot is alright, but its the gameplay that’s bad, the graphics aren’t perfect either, but thats alright because its a switch game, the framerate is enough for me, so yeah, thats it. I recommend the game for people that really like Zelda games, tho if you get bored easilly, simply don’t play it!
