Nine Witches: Family Disruption is a short little action puzzle game full of toilet humour and pixelated gory goodness. It doesn’t present much of a challenge, but it makes up for it with a fun little story, quirky characters, and delightful dialogue.

Nine Witches: Family Disruption is a really funny game, riding high on its quirky jokes and the comedic timing of its lines. As a whole, it could have benefitted from focusing on developing its characters and polishing the story and presentation. While Nine Witches hits all the right notes to create a charismatic graphic adventure, it has some growing up (both literally and figuratively) to do before becoming an attention-grabbing franchise.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Nine Witches: Family Disruption is developed by Indiesruption and published by Blowfish Studio. You can play it on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC.

The game revolves around the ideas of witches, eclipse and mysteries. But at its core, it is a comedy horror point and click game which happens to feature some action combats as well. In this game, you are assigned to investigate a supernatural incident in Sundäe which is thought to be associated with a Nazi’s unknown plot. You have to go there to learn about what’s going on.

You play and switch between two characters: a disabled Russian paranormal scholar named Alexei Krakovitz and his Japanese assistant, also known as his right hand, Akiro Kagasawa. The professor cannot move his legs but his meta human ability is the key mechanic here, while his assistant will help him with the rest of the job.

Talking of my impression, the game really gave me some genuine laugh out loud moments while keeping me entertained with its quirky jokes and scary atmosphere. Just FYI there are toilet jokes too if you don’t mind that at all. But most of the time, I’d say it’s a roller coaster of horror and humor and you should expect the unexpected (I love how the developers attempt to troll players. But nice try!). Also note that there are more task completions than puzzle solving, which is more preferable for those like myself who would love to solve less puzzles in a game. I don’t think the game is necessarily easy. It’s just because it’s well designed, and that’s it. I find that the clues and hints are really well placed. So I guess you probably won’t find yourself wandering around without a purpose. Most of the time, you go back and forth not because you get lost but because you want to explore and see what has changed or developed in a certain area.

It’s been a while that I could find a new point and click game that is this brilliant! I can see how good the game really is. Though it gave me a solid jump scare once, I’m not afraid to give it 9/10.

I REALLY want to give this the 8 it deserves (I was having an absolute blast with it- so much fun, good writing, great sense of humour, seamlessly progressive puzzles, and no tricks.) But then, immediately after solving a puzzle at Eklipsfest, a cutscene that should have loaded did not. I can go no further at about 3/4 in. Expand

It’s ok to have a few crude jokes scattered throughout the game, but to have them constantly shoved in your face just made for an unbearable experience. If you can plug your nose and get through the childish writing, well, you might be able to enjoy this game. Expand
