As a chapter in the Disney classic remakes, Jungle Book still stands at the top. Behind it is Aladdin and Cinderella fighting for second place with the rest as a distant whatever.
Massoud and Scott make a live-action “Aladdin” succeed on a different level than a cartoon can — as a teary romance. “A Whole New World” is more moving than the original.

Here’s the thing about Disney’s “live-action” remakes of its animated classics: The new versions may be bigger, louder, and more lavish, but they’ll never be original. The thrill of first impact is gone.
Guy Ritchie fails to mesh his own style with that of the hand-drawn classic, resulting in an Aladdin remake that's an exquisite corpse of CGI nonsense.
I am both surprised and disappointed. Jafar was more **** than sinister and the mix of Will Smith with the genie VFW team was actually quite fresh. I think adding 1 good Jafar and removing 1 shoehorned Jasmine scene would make this movie pretty good. Will Smith's genie + VFW team have some real puppet strings pulling this score up on my scale.
This review contains spoilers. I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. Yes, it cannot compare to the original animated movie with Robin Williams but Will Smith brought a whole new dimension to the Genie which I really liked. The story was a little stupid, with Jasmine actually becoming Sultan (I am all for feminism but this is just going too far) and Jafar was nerfed to make Jasmine look "stronger". If you ignore the token social justice tripe, the movie was enjoyable and brings back a lovely nostalgia of the amazing music brought to us by the 1992 animated marvel that we all fell in love with.
What a mess...
The movie is set in Arabia but looks like a stupid Indian Bollywood movie.
Mena Massoud act like a **** and not like a "cunning thief" like Aladdin, Jasmine is turned into a stupid Karen feminist and **** of the most cruel villains of Disney, the pedophile who wanted to marry a 16yo girl and obtain power over everything...here is a trash, whiny silly girl.
In the original opera Jafar turned into a giant snake, trapped Jasmine in a hourglass to suffocate her and blew fire, laughing in pure evil...almost invincible.
In the live action he beat the **** teleport **** freakin pathetic.
The only good thing is Will Smith's performance
Let’s just say with out Will Smith and the dance scenes, I would have given this movie a 1. Over all disappointed, Disney could have done so much better with their budget
What killed it for me was the acting, fell super flat. Let’s talk about the cast:
1.Worst was Jafar= buzz kill, poor acting and dint look the part. Awful over all, his voice and facial gestures were not mean at all, actors voice is rather soft.
2. Sultan= Hollywood has to stop casting Persians as Arabs, their accent is different. Sultan is played by a Persian actor with Persian accent, but Sultan is not from Persia! Why not hire English actors that can do the Arab English accent. 3. Dalia, wasn’t funny, didn’t believe her acting. Was just an unnecessary filler. 4. Aladdin= looked identical to the cartoon for me, but acting was bad. Flat. Just not believable. They needed to work on his acting skills
And the ending was poor and they got lazy, what happened to Jafar turning into a Cobra??? With all that budget why did they cut out this important scene? Disney shoved the Female power thing down our throats again at **** unnecessary.
I gave it a 3 since Will Smith was the highlight of the movie. If you are a child or teenager, you may enjoy the movie.
They should have left this class alone, Hollywood instantly is trying to re do classics and make it social correct to match the current state of politics, it doesn’t work. Unnecessary and forced. I’m sick of it
