The game equivalent of curling up with a good book, which is apt since the book that the game is obviously based on is, well, a good book. It is also a book that a whole lot of people know how it ends, which I thought was going to be a bigger problem that it turned out to be. Chiefly thanks to Microids having added their own little twists to the story but even the parts that I did know beforehand was generally pleasurable to go through. It's for the most part fun to work out who did what through questioning and puzzles.
But... that being said the game doesn't offer you much in terms of doing things your own way. Your supposed to go through all the conversation options and you can't advance the scene until you've found every bit of evidence at a crime scene. Then, when you organize your findings and try to work things out, you can make a hundred wrong guesses before getting it right and the game doesn't punish you the slightest for it, which makes it all feel too easy. It's pretty much "difficulty setting: story only" all the way through.
Tech wise the graphics are somewhat dated but that isn't a big problem in the more confined spaces aboard the train - talking to Captain Arbuthnot in his compartment or fine-combing the dining cart for clues - but once off the train it sort of pulls you out of the story a bit.
But with it's cozy whodunit atmospere and clever narrative Murder on the Orient Express remains a bit of a... page turner. I'm just going to pop into the pantry and question the chef... and perhaps also try and get this briefcase opened... and THEN I'll turn it off and go to bed.

If you love Christie's story, don't play this adaptation. It's ending undermines the original, basically rendering the storyline pointless. The game is very slow with puzzles that are not interesting, just tedious. I love detective games but this left me very frustrated.
