It is something Ubisoft needs to learn about its games on a very fundamental level: when the company isn't sanitising its narratives and characters to target a Call of Duty-sized blockbuster, it makes better games.
We are glad Ubisoft took the risk of making an Assassin's Creed in which you play the villain instead of the hero. The game might run on old techniques and mechanics, it feels surprisingly new.
Assassin's Creed Rogue will be a good value for those who didn't try Black Flag; for the others, it will be a serious case of déjà-vu, as the game doesn't bring anything really new in its gameplay mechanics.
An interesting story means Rogue is essential for fans of Creed lore, but it rests on its laurels by using Black Flag's naval combat wholesale, just in a chilier setting. [Jan 2015, p.87]
For all its faults: the agonizing familiarity, the workable plot, the insipid characters and, perhaps worst of all, the intrinsic absence of novelty common in most of the series’ open worlds, Assassin’s Creed Rogue — Unity’s last-gen partner in crime — is astoundingly stable.
While walking in the shoes of a Templar sounds promising, Assassin's Creed Rogue's dull story, uninspired characters, and largely recycled visuals offer little the franchise hasn't already done better.
The final Assassin's Creed game, which didn't rely on arbitrary leveling requirements and gear levels. All that affected gameplay was genuine, unadulterated skill and the tools at your disposal. You were the final game, which stood against what mars and besmirches the Assassin's Creed franchise today, Godspeed.
Though this is straight up just AC 4 with ice, it's still its own game. Shay is an interesting character to learn about and I got invested in his story. The combat/gameplay is the exact same as 4 (from what I remember), but the characters are new and the areas are new (and cold).
i think this game is better than black flag, but black flag wasnt impressive at all, i like the story and the setting, the world is really big, i like the winter setting, and i love how you can kill citizens freely without the animus getting mad like in other games, shay is a great character and with a lot of charm, but most of the problems i had with black flag are here again, because the gameplay its just the exact same as black flag and i didnt like the gameplay there, while i didnt like the graphics and colors in 4, here the graphics dont looks good niether but i like the more blue colors, the naval misssions are again bad and repetitive, but overral this game is good and enjoyable, kind of short but really good.
I really wanted to like this game. I loved Assassin's Creed Odyssey. At times this game showed a lot of potential. The story is interesting. The gameplay is fun at times. But overall this is one of the most frustrating gaming experiences I've ever had in my life. I'm not a fan of the clunky climbing in these older games. I think the change in climbing in Odyssey makes a huge difference in the gameplay. I think these older games would be far better off if the climbing was like it is in Odyssey. The last naval mission called "Cold Fire" is hard to beat if your ship isn't upgraded enough. I was out of mortar shots in this mission. I rage quit a couple times but beat it after 8 or so hours... You should be able to reload easier. Its' a pain in this game. And you get out numbered.. I shouldn't have to go to the one guy to get more ammo. Sure I can get some from a enemy ship but its just a pain. This last mission is also difficult because of icebergs.. It brings my rating of this game down a lot. Also the hunting isn't good. No point in really having it here. This game should get a true remastered version with better climbing, hunting and better naval missions. I think having a option for unlimited ammo would be a good thing too. It would make the game much easier and a more enjoyable experience. I also found maneuvering my ship to be a huge pain. It felt stiff to me. I think it needs to be fixed in a remastered version as well. In Odyssey it felt smooth and the camera was better. I know Rogue is a older game and I'm comparing it too a much newer one. But if they made these changes I think this game could be incredible. Honestly I want a true remastered version or give me a sequel to it on the PS4/PS5.
It's fun, has a unique story, and fast paced. But to fast paced. I finished the game in a day and never even had to touch the crafting system, that being said the game is way to easy. Upgrading your character is completely optional, i did not have to upgrade my ship very much the game always said that i should upgrade my ship before starting the mission but had little to no problem completing the mission. all in all it was a fun ride but does not last long, experienced gamers wait tell it goes on sale for under 20, this game was made for the casual player. 4/10 because i didnt feel the game was worth 60 dollars for a game that lasted a day and a half and posed no challenge.
