Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is the biggest proof of how amazing the series is when its elements click and bring it back to the right direction after some missteps. Combat, story, characters and setting all work together to make it one the best game in the whole franchise.
Just as Disgaea 6 was an example of how a good series can begin to deteriorate over time, Disgaea 7 is a good—nay, great—example of how it’s never too late for a series to get back on track. Not only does Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless fix the myriad mistakes of its predecessor to the point of over-correction (and I mean that in a good way), but it even finds ways of utilizing mechanics that debuted in Disgaea 6 in ways that are both balanced and, if you’ll pardon the pun, intelligent. Regardless of whether you lauded or loathed the adventures of Zed & co., there’s no excuse to skip out on what is both the latest and greatest entry in the Disgaea series. Hinomoto is beckoning you—answer its call!

The best Disgaea game since 4. It has amazing gameplay, music, character designs, map design, and a superbly humorous story. People hate on the 3D visuals, and while I personally prefer the 2D visuals the graphics are still beautiful and vibrant. If you were put off by how bad 6 was, then have no fear, Disgaea 7 is one of the best games of 2023!

Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless sets a new standard for fun and flashy strategy RPGs. It's such a perfect blend of classic Disgaea feel and quirky new mechanics, and it's got some of the most memorable and entertaining characters the series has seen. This is the sequel that fans have been waiting for.
Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is a substantial step-up from the previous game and it's bursting with so many zany mechanics and party customisation options that it'll make your head spin. Trying to master some of the missions will still give you a headache, though.
Like the rest of the series, Disgaea 7 is a massive game. The combat and progression systems boast near-infinite depth. The writing is snappy and fun, the music is catchy, and the art style is extremely anime. On the other hand, those infinite systems are downright impenetrable. You need a very particular focus to wade through so many menus. And the grind is still monumental, no matter what sneaky tricks you employ. For fans of the series, Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless is a series highlight. To all the new players, I say: Welcome! This will either be a joyless slog or the start of a brand new addiction.
Disgaea 7 is a course correction from some of the mistakes made in Disgaea 6. Gone is the slimmed-down character roster that saw many series staples disappear - instead, Disgaea 7 has more class options than any previous game, with entirely new classes and monsters to boot. Gone are the overinflated stat values and the game-breaking unrestricted auto-battle mechanics. The result is a game that feels more ‘Disgaea’ and less experimental, making it a more fitting modern follow-up to the crowning glory that was Disgaea 5 as a result.
Disgaea 7 is a remarkable SRPG with an unremarkable story that gives you little reason to move past Alliance of Vengeance.

This is the best RPG I've ever played. However, this is my first Disgaea game and the tutorial for the Geo Panel system is AWFUL. It's required so many missions to do it right or you have to start all over again. I look up online how it works and people just say, "JuSt ReAd ThE tUtOrIal". I've read it 10 times, it does not really make any sense and is very barebones. So this causes me to look up a video playthrough. The video playthroughs typically almost have story spoilers on the way to get to them and often irritating to watch. I don't know if something is lost in translation but a lot of tutorials in the game are just bad. Got stuck on the level that requires multiple jumbifications to progress because the jumbification tutorial never tells you you can jumbify multiple times. The game came with a 2 page manual and a 12 page art book, I wish it came with a 14 page manual instead so I could actually play the d*mn video game the way I was meant to. I literally can't find any good explanations for some of these mechanics in english on the entire internet. It also costs $140 to get all of the DLC which was release the day the main game was released. Wish I could pay an additional $10 for a better tutorial. If I could actually understand how to play the game and it didn't cost $140 I would give it a 10 out of 10.

I haven't played a Disgaea since the early titles, but the latest iteration seems like mostly the same mishmash of borrowed + silly mechanics and fan service--which isn't a bad thing. I'm just more of a Tactics Ogre/FFT fan. Solid SRPG for eccentric tastes.
PS: I don't like full-on auto-battler junk, but less restrictions on automation would have been a better design choice. Let people play how they wish.

D6 100% buy. D7, no. Setting people to auto is blocked unless you already did the map, and you cant even do it in item world. Sorry but no thanks. Going back to Fire Emblem. Skip this trash. Im not wasting 5 min of time just for one turn because I cant set a few people to auto. Nope

The last one was too easy, so they decided to make this one harder it seems. So weird that a series that understands it's first game was so good they can sell it 6 Plus times even after 20 years has no clue about what made it good in the first place. They kept a lot of the things that made 6 bad, like the 3D visuals, sorry camera angles and lack luster controls. For some reason they thought the Autobattle was an issue from the previous game whenever I felt it was the only saving point for the game.
The story ended up just plain dumb thanks to them trying to amp the difficulty. You're traveling with a billionaire capable of buying their own war ship but you can't afford to use the hospital on your own ship.... From some info I was reading it seems like they did this to try and force people into buying their extreme DLCs. The DLC appears to not even be working for most people, and there's pages of the garbage. They even went and set the pallet swaps that were free in every other game on the DLC page for a premium. The main reason I even bought this game myself was because I was happy they were releasing it on the PS5 at the same time as Switch. I definitely regret the purchase and with any luck this will be the last game in the series.
