Ultimately, Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an odd combination between Skyrim, Elden Ring, and Tears of the Kingdom that scratches a very unique itch. It might not be for everyone, but it’s certainly for someone, and it’ll be exciting to see what kind of DLC Capcom have planned for it.
If you miss the times when playing video games meant sharing experiences and secrets with your friends and games in which every step was a discovery, then look no further: Dragon's Dogma 2 is the game with the most heart you will find.
I know this game got review bombed because of microtransactions or somerhing along those lines but honestly don't let that distract you from the fact this is actually a very solid action RPG. The graphics are on point, combat is fun and varied among the several different classes one can choose from to play as, but I will admit the story is where I find this game to lacking. It's not a terrible story but it is a bland kind of cookie cutter "chosen one vs. the big bad" kind of story. I'm giving this game a score of 10 to help offset all the knee jerk, emotional review bombing. It isn't fair to the creators and artists that put a lot of work in to this game. The greedy higher ups at Capcom are to blame for the shady microtransaction BS.
Dragon's Dogma 2 is a must-have game for RPG players who want to experience a real exciting adventure. Capcom has managed to bring us the sequel the series deserves, in all its glory.
Despite my reservations about the late game, Dragon's Dogma 2 remains an exceptional experience on almost all fronts and an adventure that you unequivocally won't want to miss.
With Dragon’s Dogma 2 Capcom is offering a mammoth action role-playing game that will delight fans of classic fantasy RPG genre. Driven by missions that can often be solved in a variety of ways, sometimes even pleasingly puzzle-heavy, and an atomically staged game world made up of very varied biomes, you will experience a story full of twists and turns and challenging fights against huge monsters. Sadly, performance-wise 30 fps is the limit here on consoles. Also, sometimes you encounter smaller logical errors and minor visual bugs, but overall it’s a very entertaining title.
It walks a tightrope of intrigue that balances quirky systems, fun combat and obscure secrets with frustrating circumstances, weird world-building and curious design choices, and somehow manages to make it across, and if you embrace all it has to offer, you might too.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is outwardly hostile to its audience, embracing everything that made the original such a hassle to enjoy. A game designed with the purpose of wasting a player’s time, which makes Capcom’s “time saver” microtransactions all the more sickening. It’s a glorified xerox that you will adore if you believe Dragon’s Dogma was literally perfect when it released in 2012 and absolutely none of the progress within games development in the past twelve years meant one fucking thing. Indeed, if your idea of a good time is having a terrible time, you’ll love this malignant resurrection of ideas and implementations that should have stayed long dead.
Loved the first game, loved this game, which had huge shoes to fill. The nuance grows the longer you play even after 90 hours. A shame to see the score so low when there's something so special
I loved the first part and had to get the second part as well. There's about a decade between the two games. The core premise with the pawns and the low-fantasy game world is just fantastic in the second part too. However, the graphics and performance are completely disproportionate. The performance on the PS5 was "okay". However, the graphics sometimes looked really outdated. I know there was an outcry about the in-game shop, but I kept away from that and from spoilers as much as I could. You don't notice anything about the in-game shop at all. If it weren't for the outcry, I wouldn't even have known that Dragon's Dogma 2 has an in-game shop. Now, let's move on to the game. The animations and NPCs seem very lifeless and dull. On the other hand, the game world is just great to get lost in and invites exploration. Even though I find the loot in the form of chests really silly. Why is the chest on the mountain by the coast??? It kind of takes you out of the game; something more subtle would be better here. The story is below average. It's there, it moves the plot forward, but it's nothing that would keep you engaged. Gameplay is top-notch, but fights are often confusing. Essentially, Dragon's Dogma 2 can be summarized quite easily. It's Dragon's Dogma 1 with a bit more content and slightly better graphics. If you enjoyed the first part, you'll enjoy this one too. The playtime is very short; I was already at the end after 45 hours and was surprised because it felt like it was just really getting started. I did all the side quests I could get my hands on, and when there was nothing left but the main quest, I continued with that. I would already consider the normal difficulty to be rather easy.
Conclusion: An outdated low-fantasy RPG with good mechanics and an interesting game world. Performance is no longer up-to-date and the story is absolutely insignificant.
Cons:
- Microtransactions
- Poor performance
- Incomplete lackluster story
-Low enemy variety
- Not much to explore
- No fast travel to make game feel longer
- Game is too easy
- No reason for new game plus
- No hard mode
- Fetch quests
Pros:
- Fun combat until you become OP
- Climbing monsters
- Some quests have good designs but many are just fetch quest
I couldn't stand for more than 6 hours and I tried. It looks like an early PS4 game and feels like a PS3 game. I didn't play DD1, but I heard about gameplay feels very similar. C'mon a 2024 game be like a 2011 game is outrageous!
This is the last japanese game that I played (except for a few platform like Mario and JRPGs). They seems to be stopped at 2000's in game development. Such a pity!
