Incredibly enjoyable locomotion abilities, pleasant collectibles to find, and fun (albeit simple) platforming puzzles are all that await those that are willing to look past Hell Pie's grotesque themes of animal abuse, drug use, and religious tones.
Nate is the Demon of Bad Taste and as it is “one of the most horrific deadly sins” (for like two people in the world), he is summoned by the very Satan, to collect all the necessary ingredients for his birthday pie. Hence the confusingly hilarious name that perfectly summarizes the plot of Hell Pie. This disgustingly wonderful 3D platforming adventure will not only make you search unique worlds to complete Devils shopping list, but it will most definitely make you gag too, laugh out loud quite a lot, and also offer a hellish kind of challenge.
Very much entertaining experience.
The gameplay mechanics are robust and require some mastering from the player, which adds to the general medium challenge of the game.
The overall tone is both cute and brutal and I bet that's what the developers aimed for.
But can't give it 10 scores for 2 reasons:
- some mechanics still require polishing (i.e. sticking to "pole" objects and camera movement)
- soundtrack is dull and underproduced
I hope there will be a DLC, since it took me 15 hours to finish the game wih 99% score abd I definitely would love more.
Overall, Hell Pie is innovative in the platforming space, both in narrative and the verticality and mobility of its mechanical design. It might be flying under most radars, but to me this was one of the best gaming experiences I’ve had all year.
Hell Pie is a entertaining retro-style 3D-platformer with a big amount of humour and an even bigger amount of bodily fluids. The gameplay makes a lot of fun and is satisfying, the levels are very atmospheric, and the game is full of references. For a platformer the level designs and challenges could be a bit more glittering. But people who enjoyed Conker’s Bad Fur Day, will definitely love Hell Pie.
Aside from a few instances where your landings become hard to calculate, this platformer that relies on jumping and movement puzzles largely comes together. I almost expected a game steeped in the depths of hell to be a bit more devilish to its players, but the parts of the game that work as intended are minimally challenging. That’s probably Hell Pie's biggest fault: it doesn't do enough to stand out. This genre of game is having quite the resurgence, and I'm afraid it won't stand the test of time. At the end of my experience, I enjoyed the game as a whole, but a large part of that depended on my need to finish it for review. I doubt it ends up on many game of the year lists come December, but Hell Pie puts forth a solid effort to rekindle the golden age of platformers.
It may not reinvent the playbook, but Hell Pie is great at what it does. With a decent runtime and tight platforming action, the only reason not to give it a go is if you can’t stand gross-out humour, or just don’t like the genre. A lovely surprise, and one that’ll have people playing for hours to find all the hidden collectibles.
Hell pie is easily one of my favourite games this year. While playing it, you really see all the love and care devs put into it. It's not hyper polished, but it works and it is fun. I personally don't like grotesque themes at all, but in this game it is made in such a funny way, all the dirty jokes feel spot on.
The story is simple but cute and straightforward. The platforming is good, you have a lot of freedom and skill expression thanks to all the moves nugget learns in the skilltree. The skilltree is simple but very well put together.
All around a very pleasant experience, and since it only costs 10$ hell pie is very defintely worth it
It's good that besides toilet humor and tone of gore, we also get a very good and solidly made 3D platformer with many ideas and creativity. Not a game changer but very entertaining production
=======
only worth 15 dollar
=======
- 6-14 hours long.
-good final boss, funny dark humor and world.
-bad ending, easy enemies and bosses.
-bad grappling jump and movement ability need adjustments, u will stuck and get random error crashes not polished game need alot of work.
-hope fix those problems its good game.
The low score isnt due to the gameplay but the really awful performance and the fact that the game crashes a lot, if this game were to be fully fixed it would somewhere between a 7 and 8. Be warned due not buy this game until its fully patched because at the start it was just framerate dips and graphical glitches that I could bare with but now that Im getting farther into the game it is constantly crashing.
SummaryHell Pie is an obscene 3D platformer that takes bad taste to the next level. Hell Pie sees you grab the horns of Nate, the ‘Demon of Bad Taste’. He is given the honorable task of gathering the disgusting ingredients for Satan’s infamous birthday pie.
