Heroes has a ton of depth, it's very well balanced (though not perfect), and nearly every cast member is a blast to play. It achieves almost everything it sets out to accomplish, so I really hope it catches on with the non-believers and continues to grow.
Simpler, faster and more accessible MOBA where someone actually thought about design beyond the point of “let's pimp up the 13-years-old fan mod”. Heroes of the Storm is not for everyone, but it will suit players who feel the genre is too complex, difficult and inaccessible. Blizzard actually succeeded in creating almost the exact opposite.
Heroes of the Storm is the least intimidating of the major MOBAs and that's a good part of what makes it so easy to keep coming back. It's easy to pick up and learn, while the option to turn Allied Chat off makes the game a pressure-free environment.
If you’re both a fan of the MOBA genre and Blizzard’s various
properties, there’s no reason you shouldn’t check Heroes of the Storm
out. It may seem like Blizzard’s just got another “me too” on its
hands at first glance, but there’s enough to set this MOBA apart from
the rest and it all combines together to make for a distinct and
thoroughly fun experience that no fan of the genre should miss.
The few shortcomings are not enough to make Heroes of the Storm less satisfying. It's a light and pleasant MOBA, at least in comparison with Dota 2 and League of Legends. Definitely worth a try - and it costs us nothing.
Perhaps with time Heroes of the Storm can age into something great, for now it’s worth checking out if you want to experience a different take on a popular genre.
Best in it's kind of games, really a new word in MOBA. Big sad that Blizzard don't want to support it anymore. Hopefully Microsoft will change anything.
This is easily one of the best MOBAs I've ever played. It's not too complicated, visually pleasing, and the various characters can be unlocked just by playing the game. The gameplay is so fun that I often wish the games didn't end up in a steamroll situation where your team is at a lower level and you can't keep up with the enemy team. Sadly, the game has been ignored by the developers since around early 2020. There has not been any new content, and it's currently on life support.
Due to HOTS not getting as much focus development wise. The US player population is roughly arouund 100 players now. And I'm pretty sure I must have played with at least half of them. And I gotta say, I hate them all. HOTS does an extremely poor job of promoting communication and independent player value and roles as I spend the end of each matchup reporting one of my teammates because they intentionally played poorly, left, or insulted me or another teammate. Especially when it comes to those who don't see their own faults like I do.
HOTS used to be full of thousands of players that were equally filled with those who were just as awful you could ignore them to being very helpful and patient. But ever since Blizzard pulled the plug on this game, simply because it was not financially and professionally suitable for them in the short term. The game now has stagnating updates, the Winter Toys event has been running from November up to March 19 as of writing this post. No new heroes or skins have come out. No major patches or updates have been implemented, nothing.
While the game is the most thoroughly enjoyable MOBA experience I will ever have. I keep leaving it for months because of these issues, and because the player community is either too elitist or hostile to both other players and the developers. The game has a very good progression and questing system and getting gold is not that hard, and every single map and character does an amazing job of keeping the gameplay fresh despite years of playing this title. But again, because of the amount of verbal abuse and ways players can hurt their own teammates intentionally, on top of the development issues. This game is no longer the shining example it set out to be when 2.0 first launched. ANd until Blizzard finally decides to stop messing around and get it's act together, I do not recommend this title, or any of Blizzard's titles for the matter, to any players looking for a long term online video game.
