Kaiju Wars is a fantastic title for the fans of old-school strategy
games and kaiju movies. The best turn-based tactics game I’ve played
this year offers tons of content with a long story mode at the center,
exciting combat, stylish visuals and excellent soundtrack.
Kaiju Wars is a very fun spin on the turn-based strategy genre that brings a lot of style along with it. Its gameplay stands up to its striking visuals, and the few weaker points of its design do very little to detract from the overall experience.
All in all, Kaiju Wars is not a revolutionary experience, but it sure is a good time. I recommend it to fans of challenging SRPGs, retro gaming, and the kaiju genre alike. Plus, it includes several public domain giant monster movies, including multiple Gamera films, the 1925 film The Lost World, and the North Korean monster film Pulgasari. If you’re interested in old-school monster movies, that alone might be worth the price of admission.
While the stylish B-movie mayhem and endlessly entertaining presentation can sometimes clash with overly prescriptive and slow missions, Kaiju Wars is a generous package stuffed with retro turn-based fun.
SummaryPlay out a Kaiju movie as the (hopelessly) outclassed military in this stylish 2D turn-based strategy game. Construct buildings and defend your city with cannon-fodder tanks, jets and more as the devastating kaiju grow in power with every attack.
