A classical point’n’click adventure! A good interface, a clearly arranged inventory and a detailed diary make this game a very entertaining title for casual and for core-gamers.
Despite being a good game, we expected something more from an adventure by the creators of the brilliant Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.
Simply designed and well suited to gamers who don’t mind a milder difficulty level, Mata Hari might not be one of the more challenging adventure games I’ve played, but it manages to be an enjoyable piece of historical fiction with excellent aesthetics and a fantastic soundtrack.
The plot is not very stimulating. Acts follow each other with little drama, and its puzzles and minigames don't affect the game quite much.
Mata Hara was a legendary woman – this game is a one-dimensional disappointment. Instead of offering a thrilling story the game is just a line of mediocre dialogues, held together by some stereotypes. The riddles are boring and often only seem to be there to connect some mini games together. That’s not enough.
There's little point bothering with Mata Hari, unless you're looking to sedate a relative and lack Rohypnol. [Dec 2009, p.75]
In the final analysis though, Mata Hari the game is something that Mata Hari the person never was: boring and pedestrian.
