Atelier Ryza is a great game slightly marred by a poor port, lack of enemy variety, and hard-to-find ingredients. But anyone who likes crafting games absolutely owes it to themselves to play this, as it's a huge amount of fun.

In the grand scheme of things, Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout is just another entry in the series, which doesn't have what it takes to be declared the absolute best amongst its many siblings. That said, and although a little more emphasis in alchemy and storytelling, as well as a more open-ended structure would be more than welcome, this is definitely one of the best Atelier titles ever. It's an immersive, beautiful, and relaxing journey, which smells like summer and childhood adventure.

A versatile addition to the series, Atelier Ryza offers new and engaging features, though it does need some tweaking in regards to overleveling.

  1. Overall, I don’t think Atelier Ryza is the kind of game that’s going to change many minds. Though it ended up surprising me, I would argue that I’m the prime audience for it: a lifelong JRPG fan who enjoys dabbling in games with light sim mechanics.

I gave it an 9 due to a few things I things they can fix, mostly quality of life stuff, but the depth of the alchemy engine and the incredible character development more than makes up for and gaps in efficiency. A very causal and lighthearted game, one where you can just relax and have a fun time. Definitely recommend for casual RPG players and those looking just to release steam. Expand

I really like the new way they took the combat, and pretty cool take on the ATB system. The updated / streamlined way they handled the alchemy I'm enjoying. And right now I'm pretty addicted to it, I played a solid 8 hours the other day and wanted to keep going. the story is pretty solid so far and the characters are pretty good, about 14 -15 hours in so far I'm curious to see where the story ends up. The one thing I'll take a point off for is the lack of an English dub it just makes me sad, hopefully with the new found success this particular entry Is having they will have the money to include one next time. I miss my Atelie dubs : -( . Expand

Also for some reason combat style was changed to some broken analog of FF XIII. All what we have here a nice graphics (at last), Ryza - thiccness princess and Lila - thiccness queen. I bet these are only reasons why this game sold out better than Atelier Sophie. Expand

The worst RPG. It has a lot of flaws and most can't be ignored. Or i'm just stupid.
