  1. While the action and graphics are cool to look at and play through, a poor excuse for a story and a general lack of depth to most of the game could turn off some gamers.
  2. Confused by the sometimes clunky camera angles? You can deliver your skull-smashing, thong-flashing high kicks in soothing slow motion.
  3. The combat isn't deep, the level design's not fantastic, and the AI's a bit dumb. But BloodRayne has one big thing going for it: it's fun!
  4. Even those who love the gore and carnage, I suspect that the novelty would soon wear off.
  5. A decent action-adventure that should provide players with some fun moments, albeit without any background or meaning to it. I had fun with it, but not as much fun as I could've had if the story and voice acting were even half-decent.
  6. The replay value is literally non-existent.

If you can get past the unresponsive controls and don't mind the overall tasteless but campless tone, Bloodrayne still offers only a few hours of moderately entertaining carnage. [July 2003, p.85]

I love this game, it's dripping with dark sexy style and is simply amazing. Its the first game I played that actually dismembers enemies along the path of the actual weapon cutting them, not going with traditional lackluster scripted decapitations or the like that are always the same killing move/moves. The heroine, Rayne, has to be the sexiest character I've ever let eyes on or played, and the action of the game is intoxicating. Nazis, intuitive excellent controls, blood and gore more than and BETTER than any other game to date, and an intelligent integrated story, 10 out of 10 easy. Expand

The controls are exquisite, computer gaming world has no idea what they were talking about, or their test machine was no good. The graphics are absolutely beautiful, blur effects are done perfectly. It utilizes 4 completely different vision modes, (5 if you count bloodrage), which all are very useful, and sometimes required to beat a level, the vision modes are not just eye candy. The only down side is the voice acting was mediocre, and the storyline was virtually non-existant. I beat the game on hard in 3-4 hours, so you can imagine there isn't much replay value in this one. However this game if chock FULL of eye candy. So if you're just looking to cut Nazis and Zombies to ribbons this is your game, but if you're looking for something full of story like Legend of Zelda, then this isn't your game. Expand

Good fun but way too short. Took me 6-7 hours on normal the first time through.

This week's "Resident Evil: Afterlife" is yet another film adaptation of a popular videogame. Everything you've heard about the genre is true: there are a lot of terrible movies, and a lot of Uwe Boll movies. (And those categories are definitely not mutually exclusive.) We look at the "best" and worst examples of games-turned-movies.
