Expeditions: Rome is astounding in every area I was presented with. Constantly I felt like there were tons of things for me to explore and pay attention to, and truly simulates how I picture leading an entire war campaign.

Expeditions: Rome is a profoundly in-depth RPG that manages to achieve its lofty ambitions with verve. There are a few potholes in this otherwise smooth Roman road with how steep the learning curve is, but they should get smoothed out in time. For those who loved the tactical machinations of X-Com, but wanted a bit more character development and a personal story, Expeditions: Rome is more fun than visiting the Circus Maximus and Colosseum with a full amphora of wine.

Logic Artists finally did it! They made an epic mix of RPG and turn-based strategy. Roma Victor!

Expeditions: Rome is a very niche third episode in the series. A tactical RPG that is both interesting and efficiently crafted not to bore the player with its lore but to engage him in its beautiful ancient Rome world.

Expeditions: Rome is an easy recommendation for any fan of turn-based tactical RPGs. The variety of gameplay environments, the depth of the combat system, and a surprisingly compelling story with unexpectedly strong characters all carry the experience above the few shortcomings of clumsy UI and underwhelming strategy elements. Even if you have no attachment to the setting of ancient Rome (I sure didn't), the overall scope and level of ambition are worth experiencing first-hand.

Expeditions: Rome deserves a Roman triumph as one of the most impressive tactical RPGs of the last several years, despite occasionally bending under the weight of too many systems.

Expeditions: Rome feels more like a mod with Roman themes than a fully fleshed-out game. From the customization to the design, there are many details that feel unfinished or lack the depth expected of games in the strategy genre. Still, there is fun to be had if players are willing to focus exclusively on the tactics and strategy. Those looking for more of the same coming off Expeditions: Viking will be satisfied enough, even if this new title doesn't feature any major innovations.

It's not a AAA title but if you look at the state of AAA games in last years its probably for the better.
Viking was a good game but Rome

Viking was a good game but Rome makes a huge step forward in almost every game system.

Really great historical 4x game. Probably one of the best 4x titles I've played in the last few years.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Expeditions Rome is a singularly well written and designed game. There is a richness and a depth to the story and the characters that is rare in games, but that I have come to expect from the Logic Artist team.
I especially like that the choices you make in the game has consequenses, that carries all through the game (and at least once the consequenses can be fatal for your companions) It shows that the devs have respect for the players.

It has a big score and lots of details. The Rome theme is quite interesting and the story gets better with time and you really get attached to some of the characters.
The tactical turned based gameplay is wonderful and very addicting. I could play it all day and they added a lot of interested scenarios around it. But unfortunately, the rest of the gameplay isn't on par and gets very repetitive and tedious very quickly. Loot systems are also below average. The good news is that you can ignore most of that and focus on the good parts.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Yeah... this game's story was perfect up until the point where i was forced to sacrifice one of my servi or praetorians by burning them on a stake as an offering to some god, totally erasing and destroying the kind of character i was playing, the story was so good until this **** happened. Who the hell thought you should not have other options for this kind of stuff? why force the player to do this? why can't i just kill these pagans instead of sacrificing my own people? as much as i reloaded to a previous state of saves, there was no way to continue in the story, half way through act 3! and if there is and i missed it, i already gave up on it and uninstalled, gameplay was just ok, nothing outstanding.
