Kandagawa Jet Girls has some rough edges to its presentation, but the core racing action is far better than expected. Many anime-based games wind up getting old quickly due to a limited concept, but by going with a time-tested genre and mixing gunplay in with racing, power-ups and tricks, you wind up with something that’s a lot of fun to play. Fans of the anime will find that it pays homage to it nicely, while even non-fans can give it a go and have a lot of fun — especially since there aren’t many water-based racing games out there and none with combat like this one has. The blend of visual novel and racing helps keep the races feel special, while the multi-layered track design adds a surprising amount of replay value. The graphics aren’t top-shelf, but get the job done, while the voice work and soundtrack are solid and nicely fit the characters and the action.

While Kandagawa Jet Girls is somewhat entertaining on the whole, its gameplay simply doesn’t excite like it should. Your jet ski isn’t particularly fast, even once it’s been upgraded, and combat feels rather passive; you just press a button and the game auto aims for you for the most part. And so, the gameplay found within Kandagawa Jet Girls isn’t broken, or bad – it’s just mildly entertaining. If you’re more interested in the game for its lively chests and ridiculous dialogues then it probably won’t matter to you too much, but those also expecting a solid racing experience alongside them may find themselves disappointed.

If you want to buy everything with your 'hard' earned points you need to grind like crazy. I really like how there are multiple arcs for each school. Sadly these little visual novel like cut-scenes between the races are the best part of the game.

I expected some hardcore jet-skiing with fast-paced action. I mean you have to control the jet-ski and shoot at the same time so I thought the controls would be better somewhat. The keyboard and mouse combo is your worst choice. You can't control your aim with your mouse at all, and having to press multiple keyboard combo to do the tricks not to mention to control your jet's nose up and down and shoot the special weapons and your special technique really requires some skill and alien fingers. So don't do it, use a gamepad.

There are a lot of tracks to play on with lots of obstacles, turns, boosts and hidden coins, sadly the water's physics aren't the best. It's literally a plain surface so you only need to watch how you turn and maximize your speed. The track's visual style is like a videogame from the 90s so I kind of like it but the lack of reflections and poor material choices really makes it look ugly.

The girls design are all right, it's a fan-service game after all. However, you won't see any naked skin in this game, the most revealing outfits are the bikinis and if you're a pervert you can select a school uniform and get some panchira. The customizing is really plain, you can buy costumes that comes with different colors, some accessories and hairstyles too, but you need to unlock a lot of them. You can customize every character in your clubroom, change their skin tone, hair and eye colors, change costumes for racing and casual wear. You can also customize the jet-skis with various decals, colors, splash effects and upgrades. Just don't forget to buy them with your 'hard' earned points.

Your 'hard' earned points comes from winning the races and finding hidden coins on the track. There are various "missions" for each track so you can gain even more points if you complete them. And you really need these points if you want to buy everything. There's a Nami-kun plush that costs 999.999 points... Each color... Also, there are some minigames that you should definitely want to beat since you get to unlock even more things and it's really fun to see the girls run on a treadmill, mopping the pier, cleaning the jet and doing some aerials.

I personally like this game and probably beat in a couple of weeks, if you don't like grinding or just upset that there's no nudity in it, don't even touch it. Sit back and just watch the anime.
