Overall, I’d say The Crew Motorfest is a big step up from the prior games in the series, and gives some hope for additional variety in open world racers in the future. Granted, it sticks pretty close to the same formula that Forza Horizon has, but there’s enough differences between the two to make this still feel like a worthwhile use of your time. It’s a gorgeous game in motion as well, which doesn’t hurt. As far as complaints go, mine are pretty minor, in that I don’t care for the limited fast travel system that’s only tied to the intro areas for each Playlist, and I wish the server didn’t time out as quickly as it does when you go idle. Outside of that, I’ve really dug Ubisoft’s latest attempt at an open-world racer, and I think you will too.
Comparisons to the Forza Horizon series are excruciatingly apparent in The Crew Motorfest, with it almost sharing more DNA with its competitor than its own predecessors. That said, the learnings are almost all for the better, with Ubisoft presenting an arcade racer that’s very close to being just as fun and comprehensive. If you’re an Xbox player, Forza Horizon remains top dog. However, The Crew Motorsport is undoubtedly one of the more pleasant surprises of 2023, cementing itself as the best arcade racer option for those on PlayStation.
The Crew Motorfest cleverly takes inspiration from Forza Horizon and yet somehow manages to maintain a unique identity. The result is not only a worthy competitor to the Playground Games series, but also a great racing sandbox that anyone can enjoy, regardless of their platform of choice.
The Crew Motorfest turned out to be a pleasant surprise. Driving a firebird through night mist or speeding in a F40 while listening to Blondie stays in your head. Because, ultimately, these small moments are all that matters - and there's a lot of joy here.
The Crew Motorfest marks a change for the series, delivering a smaller but highly appealing open world and improving its driving model in favor of a decidedly more solid and interesting simcade approach. The obvious references to Forza Horizon have a bittersweet taste, as Ivory Tower's racer can't offer the same experience, losing sight of some of the series' defining traits and introducing a controversial progression system.
The Crew: Motorfest is the first game I've played of the series. I must say that it's pretty good, but it comes with some flaws which I don't really understand. First of all - the Gameplay and the sound are both great. What I don't like is that you have to purchase a variation of cheap and expensive vehicles for almost every playlist. It'd be okay if you actually drive the vehicles you've bought, but that's not the case. In your first Playthrough you have to drive the vehicles that the playlists give you. If you plan to do the challenges, you can drive a different car, but in most challenges you still have to drive a certain one. I don't get why I have to spend all my money just to let my vehicle get rusty in the garage, it doesn't make any sense. The game has many cars, but doesn't let you decide which car you want to use in a playlist. It would have been better if - in a Japan playlist for example - if I could have chosen any Japanese car so you have impact on what car you want to drive, just like in GT. The game focuses too much on having many cars, great sound and solid graphics instead of putting more effort on the playlists/story itself. The cars simply feel kind of useless in a way which is unfortunate for a game with much potential.
While often tremendously seeming like a clone of Forza Horizon 5 without beeing reaching it´s level of quality in any category, The Crew Motorfest yet delivers a fun to play arcade experience with hours of content but also lots of little flaws.
the map is bad, not to mention we're at next gen, and these corporates doesn't take advantage of new consoles, this game should have been delayed, some of the songs is unlistenable, the ai is annoying and you literally have to go through her to change music, some songs is good mainly the old ones, the handling is good though, but the story is just bad, don't buy this garbage, just wait for sale or get it for Christmas since we are three months away
Takes everything what makes other games great (Forza Horizon) and executes it terribly as Ubisoft generally does. Unnecessarily long cutscenes and dialogue make it unbearable to play, clunky driving mechanics, RPG system in a RACING GAME, and general unfocused direction by trying to add variety to the game through “playlists”
