Definitive Edition is a great remake. Hangar 13 respects the work of Illusions Softworks and expands it to improve every aspect of the game.

A real remaster that thoroughly updates an 18-year-old title into a proper next-gen game, and actually makes it better than the original.

Mafia Definitive Edition is the example of a well-made remake, with vastly improved graphics, and enough new stuff to keep every gamer hooked, be it a newbie, or one that has already done the original game. Still, we miss the Extreme Freeride mode that disappeared from this version.

Mafia was a great action game with a thrilling story and charismatic characters, and now, you can enjoy it in a remarkable remake, with impressive graphics and new gameplay mechanics.

If you're a fan of the original Mafia then you should give this remake a try. It captures the spirit of the game while also making it a thoroughly modern shooter. If you never played Mafia, then this doesn't feel like a nostalgia project but a new game. The split structure of the story mode and open world may be unusual when lined up against its current competitors, but if you find yourself lost in large open worlds like Assassin's Creed and are looking for something that has more respect for your time, Mafia may be for you.

This is a full-fledged, honest to God remake. Some changes to the story will upset hardcore fans, but I think this approach is absolutely justified. Even though this remake is not as amazing as new versions of Resident Evil 2 and Final Fantasy 7, it’s still a worthy update.

The remake stays true to the original, but storytelling and mechanics feel terribly outdated, giving you the impression that this is more of a remaster not reaching its full potential.

This is how you do a remake. I know hangar 13 doesnt have as much budget as rockstar but they still did their best with the budget available.

Characters and their motivation were changed which lead the OG vibe change drastically, for some people it might be a big minus, for others - not.

    Talking about:
    Graphics
    Car physics
    Animations
    Soundtrack
    City overhaul

Were done really good, this is what you should pay credits for to Hangar13 for sure.

But there are of course minuses
1.Soundtrack/Radio - even though I said soundtrack was good but some of the Simunek tracks could stay, Jesse Harlin did really good but some of the Simunek soundtrack were truly a masterpiece, why couldn't they mix old and new tracks? Its a big question. Then there is radio part, damn that is really sad, only one radio song left from the OG "Mooche", new one are good as well, but not as good as in the OG, I don't know why they couldn't get them, didn't want to overpay or what, but I'm sure they could make an agreement and get at least 50% of the OG tracks and it would make the game aaa lot better.
2.Lighting bugs, whenever you look at the wall or other static objects in different angle the lighting blinks and its suck, same issues were in Mafia 3, still can't fix that? Big minus.
3.Missions too much scripted. For example mission in the port "You lucky bastard", you just have to stick to where the game says you to go, location is bounded all around, you can't explore the port like you could in the OG Mafia, its just narrow corridor, I want to decide on my own how I want to deal with certain mission but sadly the remake doesn't give you this choice. A big minus for me.

Anyway with all this said its a pretty good game, but at the same time a pretty weak remake.I give solid 8 to this game.

Zažijete znovu příběh taxikáře Tomáše a to v perfektní grafice, nově vymodelovaném městě Lost Heaven, až mi je líto, jak málo toho nová definitivní edice nabízí. Jeden z Legendárních herních příběhů dokážete sloupnout za několik hodin. Nezastaví vás ani nejtěžší obtížnost a jakmile hru původní znáte, není tady ani žádná nová výzva.

Main characters are completely changed along with major plot points. Only a few songs actually return from the original soundtrack which is very disappointing. The freedom of the original level designs are long gone and replaced with linear shooting galleries. The checkpoint system is a disaster. It'll reset the entire level of everything you've done, thus breaking immersion and making everything you do feel pointless. It's also incredibly sad how they removed riding on trains and trolley cars. Even the original 2002 game had that. I just think it goes to show that the game needed more time in the oven. They tried being more faithful by adding in classic mode which is a good mode, but it was just little too late. On a good note the graphics are amazing. The game can be fun at times, especially the Hotel Corleone mission (one of the few missions that actually saw an improvement.) Overall, I can't see myself playing this for a year much less 18 years like I have the original. I think the biggest error was not consulting the original director. This game left me feeling uneasy, and made me feel like I was playing a plagiarized product. Expand

All you had to do was refresh the original game, not change it... Unfortunately this game is empty, shallow. I don't understand why someoneAll you had to do was refresh the original game, not change it... Unfortunately this game is empty, shallow. I don't understand why someone feels like changing something when we are talking about a freakin remake...

The story is cut and remade in a ridiculous way. Music is close to non existent, contrary to original where the music was on practically all the time. Side mission with Luca are gone, Ralphie practically gives us 2-3 cars the entire game. There is no free time in between the missions, it's like introduction, fast forward to action, some shooting and then boom, next mission. No side talks with Sam and Paulie, just jumping from action to action.

In the original we were feeling the world development, as the years passed, the cars got better and you could really feel that changes in the city. Here there is practically no difference at all, not that it matters as there is not a chance to even know the city, if the mission allows driving the target is usually really close.

So the story/characters were ready, all the devs had to was refresh the graphics and maybe even add something new to the story, but no, let's shorten the story and change it and don't even think about adding some content... If you wanted to write new story just create a new game, oh whoops, I forgot you made one, Mafia III which was utterly booring (at least the music was fine there).

To sum up, this game is not worth the money. The graphic is good, but all else, just not worth it, and if you are a fan of the original, it's painful to play this game knowing how they ruined such good story.

I'm pretty sure I will play original game many times again (already did like 4 times) but I doubt I will ever play definitive edition again...

No HDR support on PC despite advertising HDR support and not making it clear anywhere that PC would not be getting it.
