KOF XV is an excellent game for fans of the series as it offers great visuals and a deeper fighting system. However, it will hardly win the hearts of newcomers because of its steep learning curve.
It's a clear improvement from KOF XIV. This installment establishes itself as one of the most complete, accessible fighting games, without sacrificing its essence.
It makes me feel like I never left KOF behind, to begin with. I am ready to start my journey in fighting games once again and live to fight another day.
It’s a shame that The King of Fighters XV doesn’t have some of the modes we’ve come to expect as standard now in fighting games, but thanks to its large roster of fighters and solid mechanics it still impresses. Its team-based battles differentiate it a little from the competition out there, and on PS5 it looks and performs beautifully. So, if you’re on the market for a new fighting game, you should definitely give it a look. Especially if you plan on mainly playing against others online.
It’s not perfect, it’s not easy to learn, and there are some characters missing that I feel are must-haves. However, a solid visual redesign, good netcode, original and returning music, a great collection of fighting mechanics, and a wide offering of tutorial and training tools make King of Fighters XV feel like one of the strongest entries in the franchise yet.
With its familiar, deep gameplay and recognizable characters, The King of Fighters 15 is an obvious success for fans of the franchise. However, in terms of accessibility and presentation, this new part is not convincing enough to stand out from the competition. The game will therefore not gain many new souls.
KOF’s resistance to any grand story arc defies the pressure being applied by its rivals. Minimal solo options and routine online duels don’t reinvent anything either. This isn’t laziness on SNK’s part, however. It feels more like a focus on maintaining the design philosophy that the player base has loved all along: potent character design, instantly identifiable team play, and off-the-wall plotlines.
Honestly, graphically for 2022 it's just ok.
Gameplay wise however, this is excellent.
Rollback Netcode is the game changer..!!!
Some moves have been simplified, but quick max is amazing to get people learning combos which were harder in previous KOFs. Make no mistake, this is still a punishing yet rewarding game. Just do it.
Unfortunately, we are a bit disappointed with the latest spin-off. We see "The King of Fighters XV" more as an improved version of the good predecessor. All modes are fun, but we would have expected more in some areas. The number of characters has also been reduced compared to the predecessor and the training for newcomers would have been better. So fans of the genre and the series can gladly strike again. But other players should rather read up a bit and prepare themselves before the game gets interesting.
This is an Honest Review from someone that has played mostly all Fighting Games in the last 15 years or so.
I am giving the Game a 7.7/10
Graphics-6
Gameplay -10
Music-9
Online-6
Fun-7
EASE OF LEARNING-6
Controls-10
Cons:
Let's be realistic, the only people that think the game looks good are hardcore fans. Killer instinct 2013, Mortal Kombat X and even Street Fighter 5 look better. As you know those titles are 6+ years old. Yes Kof 14 to 15 is and upgrade but it's not a major one. The KOF story is bland and the characters themselves don't look all the great except some of the female characters. The online currently **** but I have a PS5, I hear others having the same issue. I'm hoping for an update fix
Pros:
Gameplay wise it's amazing! The mechanics are crisp and smooth. The attacks and hits feel great, and the flow of the matches are responsive and quick. The roster size is awesome and it's good to see developers launching that many characters at launch. The Music is great and has a fun soundtrack. Roll back net code is a plus obviously.
Overall, I will admit i was hoping to have my expectations ****. The game does not look appealing. I still bought it regardless because I support all developers but it's time for SNK to start a new game I feel.
"The King of Discord 15"
This game is a flop while the KOF fanboys are really trying to claim 6k on steam at launch is good. I have to wait 2-3 minutes to find a match 3 day's after launch & the controls themselves are some of the most unresponsive stuff I've played in a while. You try to do a charge input it doesn't register, you try to do a DP doesn't register, The list goes on. From ridiculous grabs and absolutely TERRIBLE hit boxes your bound to get frustrated. People are scared to review the game honestly because it's SNK but this definitely isn't worth $60 for a below average fighter that barley works. This game is 3 day's old and you can already barley find a match. 2 years from now this game Will be discord only because comparing this mess to any recent fighting game is embarrassing. This feels like a Dreamcast game that was just ported and for a 2022 fighting that only has a big roster (That's mainly copy pasted from XIV). You can have fun playing but you'd be better of playing almost any other fighting game honestly.
They **** expectations alright. They **** them so much I want my money back
