  1. Melbourne House have almost achieved the impossible - they’ve not only made one of the best action games on the PS2, but they’ve made a cool Transformers game that’ll take pride in any fan’s collection.
  2. The large levels, number of enemies, and variety of weapons thanks to the minicons make the game stand out from most other third person action games.
  3. The best Transformers game ever.
  4. The atmosphere is somewhat ruined by lackluster music, sometimes shoddy level design, and repetitive battles, but if you don’t overdose on the game, you’ll have a lot of fun.

While this is infinitely superior to "Robotech: Battlecry," it's lacks the subtle mix of arcade with strategy that made "Gungriffon Blaze" such excellent yet shabbier bargain basket bargain.
  6. For anyone out there who are in dire need of a pure action Mech title for your PS2 you really can't go wrong with Transformers.
  7. Transformers might be a good purchase for crazy, obsessive fans of the license (like me), but for anyone who demands rich play experiences and balanced design, this is one of the few times that Optimus Prime has failed to complete his mission.

The best Transformers game on any system, it's big, it's epic and it's fun from beggining to end. A ps2 hidden gem.

This is an awesome game. Very fun to play and you want to finish it just so you can find more power ups.

There are no missions that require the use of a different Autobot, or that take advantage of the abilities to transform. This game could have been a 10. Imagine a truckload of minicons that Optimus has to pull through a decpticon ambush while transformed as his semi self. Now that would be awesome. However the game is still great at what it is , a close to first person shooter. You get great weapon upgrades and can kill kill kill. The scenery is some of the best on Playstation 2 I have seen. I think the controls can be somewhat difficult but I got used to it. Now I can make Optimus move like a ballerina. I think the boss fights are better than any I've ever played. Again, this game hasn't lived up to it's potential, but far from a disappointment. Expand

The environments are interesting, and the gameplay is engaging and fun. The exploration aspect is very nice and allows the player to have different options when facing enemies. The controls can feel a little clunky or slow at times, and the physics are a bit wonky (you'll know what I mean if you get blasted by a powerful gun), but its acceptable and part of its charm. This game can get pretty challenging on the harder difficulties; the AI is pretty smart and can overwhelm you if you aren't careful. The story and characters are great, its faithful to the show, and the boss battles are pretty epic (especially Tidal Wave). I would have taken Demolisher over having to fight Starscream again, but it still good. The Unicron fight was a bit disappointing though. The variety of Mini-Cons is great and adds to strategy, though they can be difficult to find, but that is part of the fun. I wish you could play as Smokescreen or as another Autobot. Also wish you can replay boss battles, because you basically have to start a new save to do that, and also in order to unlock all the extras and such you need to beat the game on easy, medium, and hard, which takes up all of you save slots. Transformers (Armada) is a definite must for any Transformers fan that has a PS2. Expand

One thing that really impressed me was the AI- multiple enemies try to outflank you, bigger enemies shoot where you're going instead of where you are (that is, if you're running full tilt), smaller enemies dive out of the way of rockets and explosives, and just watch a Commander Unit organise a bunch of grunts into a Tortoise formation- it's almost awe-inspiring. Combined with huge, destructive weapons, great environments, beautiful graphics, intense action and a great Minicon system, this game is hugely enjoyable. Faults- a bit too short, no story, and the vehicle modes are essentially useless (beast modes would have been far more useful and easier to integrate into the environments). Expand

But I got bored and currently have no desire to play it again. The gameplay is shallow, and uninteresting. The whole 'minicon' idea didn't feel right to me. You have to collect tiny transformers (minicons), to give yourself special abilities. The game would be more enjoyable if it was based on the old tv show. The quality is definately here, but I regret picking it up. Expand
