Drawn to Death's juvenile presentation belies a nuanced shooter that's frankly a breath of fresh air. The title fuses fighting games with frenetic on-foot action that feels quite unlike anything you'll ever have played before. Quality game modes and an imaginative roster of weapons are only let-down by the lingering microtransactions that have seemingly survived the title's business model change unscathed. Other than that, though, it's f*cking awesome.

David Jaffe and co. have created something wildly novel, moderately fun, and slightly frustrating with Drawn to Death. In the finished product lies a blueprint for a great game, but mediocre shooting mechanics and a slightly shallow level of content holds back Drawn to Death in the end.

Drawn to Death is a bloody, messy, childish romp through adolescent notebook art, putting you into the art itself in a series of deathmatches. The art style is endearing and interesting, but it leads to some confusion in the gameplay itself. Fast-paced, unique, and creative, Drawn to Death provides a gnarly experience unlike any other, but suffers from a bit of monotony all too quickly, mimicking high school quite well.

Drawn to Death, David Jaffe's return, is a free-to-play game with the worse things of the genre and without the best (it isn't free!). Funny and original, with an unique art design, it deserves one chance, but you must know: it's simple, turns boring soon and it doesn't have enough content.

David Jaffe's new project is a third person online shooter that includes a number of nice ideas but a lot of different problems too, many of them really annoying.

David Jaffe has always been known for games that can be a bit over the top and Drawn to Death may be the most extreme example of that to date. The notebook art style is very unique and works well with the varying character roster throughout the fast paced arena matches. However, the long wait times and crass humor used to make Drawn to Death seem edgy really drag down the experience as a whole.

It’s probably just as well Sony gave this thing away for free with PSPlus memberships. It’s the only hope the game has of actually keeping an audience (because it’s a multiplayer-only game, it needs a large and sustained community). But if David Jaffe genuinely wants to make a transgressive game, next time he should pay some attention to how actual transgressive artists like Goichi Suda and Yoko Taro do it.

And while it'd be nice to talk about this game without getting into the politics of microtransactions, it's hard to get into these kinds of games without the topic surfacing as a major point of discussion.

Graphically, this game is unique, interesting and fun. It's attaches itself to a strong design concept, and it does so very well: Drawn to Death is nothing if not different, in a good way. It's the brainchild of David Jaffe, and it shows - Jaffe is best known for his work in creating the multiplayer vehicular killfest that is Twisted Metal, as well as the machismo-injected antihero epic God of War. Drawn to Death is a third-person shooter that takes place within the notebook of a despondent and artistic teenager; namely, the kind that would spend all day drawing Iron Maiden cover art. The weapons are one-of-a-kind, and while not exactly anywhere near balanced for eSports-levels of competitive combat, will definitely leave players discussing favorites and least-favorites in a manner similar to the fragfest weapons of old-school arena shooters.

Unfortunately, while graphics, presentation and overall gameplay are a big plus, the level of content can be a bit thin. Each character does have two unique special attacks, as well as their own unique character abilities; but with only six characters at launch, it's a lot less layered than other character shooters like - of course - Overwatch. And while there's not incredible difficulty finding online matches, its' online presence isn't exactly comparable to other current shooters in the genre at the moment. Add to that a tacked-on microtransaction platform, and you've got a recipe for success that unfortunately still wears thin a little quickly on a lot of players. The writing and humor, while solid, tends to also be trying a little bit too hard at times - but considering what kind of game this is, that can easily be overlooked. However, underneath all that is a game that is still a head above the competition in terms of F2P shooters and is definitely worth a look for PS+ members who are contesting whether or not to just bite the bullet and get the free download.

And I was able to play only one match and against only a single adversary. A big letdown. Expand

This game is an absolute joke. The developer obviously rushed this game 100% and put zero effort into it.

EDIT: THIS GAME JUST KEEPS GETTING WORSE! Longer matchmaking, still unbalanced after weeks of being out.. they are lucky i'm close to the platinum or i'd trash this piece of crap!
