Let’s try a metaphor and imagine games as drinks. Fallout 4 is a fine wine, aged, complex, and evolving, likely better with a bit of wait. Bloodborne is a single malt Scotch — dense, overwhelming and rarified. Destiny might be a well made cocktail — a bit trendy, probably too expensive, but eminently satisfying and possessed of a certain technical skill. Just Cause 3 is a Miller High Life. It might not tick those other boxes of quality that those other drinks manage, but damn if I’d have it any other way.

When you’re not waiting for it to load, Just Cause 3 is an incredibly fun game. Crisp visuals and a clever soundtrack bring all the explosions to life. Even with the violence and destruction, it manages to maintain a lighter tone than the Far Cry games, without sliding into the outright silliness of Saints Row. But, it’s still silly enough.

Just Cause 3 gets away with more stunts and high-flying hijinks that, let’s be honest, even Hollywood can’t get away with much anymore. Come for the explosions, but stay for the, well, stay for even more explosions.

All in all, Just Cause 3 is one giant bombastic set piece that manages to be immensely enjoyable and disappointing at the same time.
  5. "I have an island and i will blow it up!" Just cause 3 is a symphony of explosions. Action scenes make you feel good but missions get repetitive after a while.

Like me, fans of the predecessor will still enjoy playing this game, and the true sandbox nature that promotes tinkering around with nearly endless possibilities will ensure that some people will continue to play it even after the story is completed.

Imagine a roller coaster that stops for maintenance every 30 feet and doesn't allow you to exit, even after you've already been around the track a few dozen times.

But hell if I'm not having more fun than ever.

Every day I come home and look at my PS4 game collection and think "these are all great games, but I'm feeling lazy as hell. I don't want to think, I want to RELAX."

Enter JC3. Turn on the game, blow stuff up, cry laughing at the awesome freedom afforded to you.

Thanks Avalanche. You know what you are good at and don't pretend to make this game something it isn't. It's good, stupid fun. And I've been waiting for this since JC2.

I think people are confused about what this game is supposed to be, which is why the score is below 90. I've only played around 7 hours so far but there have been several times while playing that the thought has occurred to me as I look at all the destruction around me, "Did I do all that?"

Time flies while soaring above the mountains, valleys and towns, trying to perfect the tricky-to-master wingsuit. But it is extremely satisfying to stay in the air for several minutes at a time when you finally get the hang of winching in the grappling hook to keep yourself airborne.

The game is far from perfect (occasional frame-rate issues, ridiculous loading times, sometimes getting the "this is all a little repetitive" feeling), but I can't in good conscious give this anything lower than an 8 when it gives me this much enjoyment!

But after they actually finish it. Action, destruction, physics are really fun. I would compare this game to the Saints Row 4. You are ovepowered hero in fun sandbox world. But... the game needs polishing. There are crazy loading, that takes minutes. (and sometimes all this loading will do is set a wehicle next to you and show a waypoints). I estimate that I spent almost half of the "play time" looking at loading screen. This has to be fixed. Then there are enemies. I wont mind their bad AI (it is sufficent for this type of a game). The problem is with their respawn, that are really annoying and non logical. You shoot the nemies, turn around and suddenly someone is shooting you in your back again. This is runing the gameplay ,because shootingenemies feels meaningless. And then are are lots of randoms small bugs (levitating npscs, etc). I can say, that when I way playing I have tremendous fun. The problem is, that the game did not let me play as much as I wanted and kept interupting with looooong looooadings. Once this is fixed, I will recomend this game. Until then I stopped playing. Waiting an entire year to buy Just Cause 3 for $15 during PSN's black friday sale was a great decision because this game is not worth $60.Waiting an entire year to buy Just Cause 3 for $15 during PSN's black friday sale was a great decision because this game is not worth $60. Somehow the developers made this game less fun than Just Cause 2. The game has such a simple formula, how could they mess it up?

First we should consider how Just Cause 3 is not much of an upgrade from Just Cause 2. The graphics are better yes, but all current gen games look better than last gen games. The game does itself no favors by re-cycling not only buildings but also entire towns. Despite the power of the PS4, the destructible models remain limited to radar dishes, fuel tanks, and water towers. Some destroyed vehicles will split in two, like helicopters, and some destroyed vehicles are blacked out versions of the original, like all the other vehicles. Enemies have the same 360° binocular vision that they had in Just Cause 2. This time, however, if you manage to stay out of sight on a rooftop for 30 seconds they can't find you. A.I. in general is dumb. Enemies will bomb their own sites and shoot rockets at their own vehicles if you are in close proximity. It used to be that you could hijack a helicopter and wreak havoc. Now when you grapple onto a helicopter, all enemy units will destroy it within seconds. Enemy fire and explosions can be so intense that I often had no idea why I was dying.

The story missions in Just Cause 3 are ok. You pal around with a guy who says "It's a me, Mario", a joke that was presented better in Assassin's Creed 2. Mario is not much of a revolutionary fighter, and everything is up to the player character to save the day. Most missions make use of hijacking vehicles and otherwise using your cable to stop vehicles, open doors, or reach high places like Spider-Man. Side note: there are tons of weapons in the game but I cannot see why I would use them when the cable, rocket launcher, and machine gun are so effective from the start. Further side note: why would I ever order a vehicle for delivery when the game is also littered with all kinds of vehicles. The mission structure at times seems broken. One missions tells you to grab a vehicle. I start heading to the nearest military base to grab a tank and the game tells me I am going to far away form the objective. Too far away? In an open world game? Heresy.

The side missions in the game are little more than challenge modes. Sometimes challenges are fun like in Saints Row III. Sometimes they are a boring waste of time, as they are in Just Cause 3. One side mission has the player character drive a boat to explode-able objects, switch to the gunner seat, and then blow up the object from a stationary position. So fun. Last side note, finding all the objects you need to destroy can be a real fun killer. Speaking of fun killers, the game gives you three remotely triggered explosives. You cannot zip around town like Spider-Man, attach explosives to everything, and then destroy it all from safety. No, you can only destroy three things from safety and then you have to go back and attach explosives to three more things. The developers had no idea what makes this game fun.

So all in all, Just Cause 3 is a pretty meh and repetitive experience. It's too bad because Just Cause 2 was one of my favorite games last gen. Just another uninspired sequel that is making the current generation one of the worst generations in gaming history.
