I would highly suggest picking up Pyre at your earliest convenience. I absolutely believe it will be one of the best games you play all year, and quite frankly I can’t think of another game that easily compares to it. The story, mechanics, and world featured absolutely stand-out compared to other releases this year, and it’s well worth experiencing. And even if you’ve felt lukewarm on Bastion or Transistor, Pyre is such a different experience that I’d still say it’s worth checking out whether you are a fan of Supergiant or not. But if you are, then there is no reason to miss Pyre.

It feels disingenuous to even try and write words about Pyre, another Supergiant masterpiece.

Pyre is a wonderfully made game, with simplistically beautiful graphics, and an engaging soundtrack. The gameplay can get a bit repetitive, but that doesn’t stop it from being an enjoyable journey. The characters and challenges were more than enough to make up for it.

Pyre is SuperGiant Games' best game to date. It is a compelling, original formula, winch combines RPG and tactical sports where the spell is cast through its character's charisma, the overwhelming options you always have at your grasp, the instant fun of the matches, and through deep, strong storytelling.

A quirky fusion of genres which challenges as much as it charms.

Pyre offers a unique blend of storytelling and thrilling arena combat. The ability to duel against friends adds incentive to keep playing even after the game is finished but it’s the cast of characters that steal the show. They are unquestionably worth investing in due in part to the sprawling history and noble journey they embark upon which you won’t soon forget.

Pyre's strengths lie in a lot of things: it's beautiful visuals, amazing score, multi-branching tale, gameplay that somehow marries the best of sports games and tactical RPGs. But it's wrapped in an expansive story that doesn't quite earn its keep over its many hours, and fails to flesh out the endearing characters you meet and spend time with all along the way. In the end though, Pyre's a quest worth taking if ou're up for the challenge and the inevitble dread you'll feel when you lose sometimes.

During the first four hours, the gameplay has far more RPG-style management and dialogue than gameplay. After that, it starts to even out.

Speaking of gameplay, this game is a unique experience in that it's a high-fantasy tackle-basketball game with RPG elements and a graphic novel structure. I won't spoil the story twist - which is great - but there's also an element of campaign management (think Banner Saga) thrown in partway through. It's strange, but well done and engaging.

While the gameplay is solid, this game focuses more heavily on presentation. There's a huge cast of fantastically designed and (mostly) interesting characters that bounce off of each other wonderfully, and the art and music are outstanding. If you're looking for a unique experience or enjoy either visual novels or sports management games, you should definitely give this a shot.

    PROS:
    -Excellent art and scoring
    -Great setting and characters
-Unique and interesting gameplay once it gets going

    CONS:
    -Slow start

One bit of caution though. The game is a slow starter and doesn't hit it's stride until a couple of hours in. When I read some of the negative reviews I can tell they are from players who never bothered to get over that initial hump.

I was really surprised on how well the characters and the story are written.

    Pros
-Great usage of colors/art, character detail
-The story is very good and keeps you wanting to progress
    - Almost all of the characters are well written and good voice acting helps as well. Like for your team I liked most of the characters and would use most of them in the battles. Even the rival teams that you go up against, each of the leaders have distinct personalities, to where some you feel sorry for, and some you just want to win against no matter.
    - The game goes in depth for character's backstories and makes it easier to connect to the teammates, and goes into some interesting rivals where your team and the other team get into some interesting banter and arguments.

    Cons
-The game does at times have a lot of talking and some of it can get repetitive
    - even though it's a 3v3, a lot of the times you just end up using one character and don't really pass the ball around that much. It's not fluid enough and the other characters. they shouldn't just stand alone, there should be like commands like hey defend the goal, or run to the enemies goal. Because what happens is you just pick the quickest character to get some easy points against the other team
-Some characters feel way too powerful, and others just feel little to no impact, so for example the characters with the quickest speed can easily just get free points by rushing to the other goal since a lot of the times the AI just won't react quickly enough.

Overall, the game starts out somewhat slow but after 4-5 hrs, the game allows you to just play the action part more and less of the story. There's a lot of talking throughout the game, and for some that may just be too annoying. Would recommend the game if you like games with more story and detailed characters.

There is aThe game Pyre is from the indie studio SuperGiant and whats impressive to me is every game that they make is completely different. There is a theme where every game has a well-written Narrative but Bastion is an action game, Transistor is a turn-based strategy game and Pyre is a sports game. The studio has a range and that’s great, unfortunately, I couldn’t get into Pyre.

From people that I have spoken to, they seemed to love the game and its characters but I just didn’t connect with them. I enjoyed the sports aspect of the game but even that wasn’t quite enough for me to get connected to the game.

This is a game that I wanted to enjoy but after about 2 hours, it just didn’t do anything for me.
