The more I play The Amazing Spider-Man 2, however, the more I'm viewing it as a superhero game that just happened to have come out at the same time as a movie wih the same name. Obviously, there's a little more corporate synergy at work than that, but it's a sign of this game's quality that it 100% stands up on its own.

For all but the most passionate Spider-Man fans, TAS2 is one you can safely skip or get by with on a rental.

Perhaps the biggest problem with The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is that it doesn't stray much from the previous game's formula, and when it does, it actively detracts from the game.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is an entertaining but flawed experience. Beenox has aced the web swinging, but the controls are unreliable and the camera work is horrific at times. It’s apparent that the game was rushed to be released at the same time as the movie.

Although The Amazing Spider-man 2 isn't a catastrophic disaster by any means, there's also absolutely nothing to recommend it.

To summarize, The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is a pity. It's a pity because the potential is there. I do not understand why they cannot treat this superhero with more respect and why they always have to wait for a movie to force a simplistic system in the "awesomeness" that is navigating from web to web through New York.

Developer Beenox showed in the past, with Shattered Dimensions, that it not only has fresh ideas for Spidey but the development chops to create a polished and impressive game built around the character. There's none of that inspiration or attention to detail here.

It has the highlights you would imagine and the drawbacks you have come to expect from the genre. I have had fun with the title and can easily recommend to fans. While I understand some of the complaints and comparisons to other games in the genre, some of the low scores I have seen around the web don't seem justifiable. I feel this is the best entry in the series with the most polish to date. Expand

I never thought I would enjoy web slinging through New York so little. Some of the side missions are simple enough, grab a bomb throw it in water, ok but saving people from a burning building forget it. The story line of the game differed a lot from that of movie and in a good way but the Peter Parker in the game is a very odd looking twitchy version of the character. If you have anything else to pass some time playing I suggest a pass on this one. If not it's worth a play through for some trophies. Expand

Lacking flow, must complete mundane repetitive side quests before they time out just to remain heroic. Stripped down; very crude basic graphics and animations help this maintain a steady 30fps at least.......... I dunno man I really enjoyed the first outing but this feels like a predecessor instead - yet it is next gen, how so?! Feels like it shouldn't be a full price title, and I paid €60 for this as my local didn't stock it which only adds to my feeling of ripped-offness in the event of nothing else out... is lucky I didn't give it a 4 the meta score seems just about right. There were a lot of confusing concepts in this game, the story wasn't interesting and the gameplay never changed, the web swinging was the best it had been in the last 5 years but it also feels extremely plastic. You press the button, you hold on to the web for 2 seconds until it automatically lets go. The animation for the web swinging isn't creative and doesn't hold on type of good physics. He always looks the same when swinging. The graphics are OK, nothing incredible but they are exceptable. I however did enjoy fighting crimes and unlocking new suits. The fighting wasn't bad but it was just too easy. The boss fights could break the game over time too. I feel as if it wasn't beenox's fault of creating such a mediocre title, instead with the recent flaws that activision has been committing, such as low budget quick cash grabs, Activision really just cared about stealing money from young spidey fans. Beenox could have created an incredible game like they did with Shattered Dimensions, however activision slowly started to shift away to the Call of Duty genre. What doesn't make sense as well is that Activision just stopped caring about its fans. Adding Micro-DLC to every game possible, such as recent Call of Duty titles.

    Verdict:
If you're a fan of spider man and you're looking for a game to waste a bit of time playing you won't be disappointed. However this game isn't worth half of its retail price. If you find this game for around 10 bucks, I would say its pretty fun, however a game so broken and unfinished doesn't deserve even 30 dollars.

Everything that was good about the last one sucks here. The web-slinging is atrocious and now getting across Manhattan is no longer fun and simple but a chore and obnoxious. The combat is ok but the camera both during combat and while web-slinging is horrible and almost never showy like it was before. The story is horrible. Kraven is ok but the Peter Parker segments do nothing and even the overarching story is bad. There's a lot less of a focus on free-roaming and far more linearity in this one. Finally, I swear the graphics are worse in this one than the last. Also it glitches out and prevents you from completing objectives. This game clearly needed a lot more development time (among other things) DO NOT BUY. Instead just play the older one. Expand
