Tales of Arise - Official "Forge Your Path" Gameplay Trailer
Sep 8, 2021Indeed, Tales of Arise is a game designed for long-term Tales franchise fans and those who have never picked up a franchise entry before, where story, combat, and various features come together to deliver a high-quality, highly-detailed JRPG. All of that makes it not just one of the best JRPGs on the market today, but one of the best games hands-down.
Sep 8, 2021Tales of Arise is a masterpiece with a deep story and endearing cast that will keep you hooked as you fight for freedom from tyrants. Meanwhile, the action-intense battles are great fun as you plan your moves to take down enemies as efficiently as possible. Exploring the dungeons and overworld is a joy, too, especially with new map abilities that make traversal engaging. It's the best Tales yet.
Sep 9, 2021Tales of Arise includes the trademarks of the franchise and shows that twenty-five years of experience help to strive for perfection. Just like a good wine, the franchise has managed to get better with age. The battle system, anime-inspired visuals, and a story full of lovely characters are the stars of the show, which ultimately make a game that shouldn’t be overlooked. Tales of Arise is an entry that will satisfy die-hard fans and convert newcomers to the series with its awesome experience.
Sep 8, 2021After previous attempts only achieved half-measures, Tales of Arise finally takes the series in a new direction. There are sure to be veterans who lament some of the changes in the name of expanding the audience, but the risks taken here pay off nicely. The visuals are a marked improvement from any previous entry, and the combat looks and feels better than ever, even if it comes at the cost of losing some depth. Arise’s narrative admirably tackles some ambitious themes, though not all beats hit their mark. However, despite a few flaws, Tales of Arise is a fantastic RPG that stands as one of the best the series has to offer.

Sep 8, 2021Taken as a whole, Tales of Arise is a very good RPG, boasting beautiful visuals, a wonderful cast of characters, and engaging combat mechanics--but its flaws (and that odious DLC) are also difficult to ignore. If you're looking for a lengthy, charming, and engaging JRPG to play on your shiny new console or PC gaming rig, Tales of Arise is certainly a fine choice. Just don't go into it expecting an all-time classic.

I remember when I was in middleI am the type who yearns for (1) medieval-like fantasy and (2) party adventure when it comes to RPG games. I remember when I was in middle school getting so attached to the world-building, story, music, and characters in the games like Final Fantasy 6 or Chrono Trigger. Later in high school, I got my PlayStation 2 with Final Fantasy 10. I was so absorbed with these fantasy games to a point that I can still reminisce very clearly the events and the journey that I experienced from these games. These games have impacted me so much that they shape me into what I am now.
It has been so long since I felt like this until I play Tales of Arise. Although my playtime on the game while writing this review is just around 20 hours and probably around a third (or maybe half? I don't know) of the main story, I am enjoying my time so much with the game, combat, story, exploration, etc. Tales of Arise has a good medieval fantasy world-building and a group of friends with distinctive personalities. I am usually fond of mage classes in every fantasy game so I am mainly playing as Rinwell. The variety of magic is awesome and the ability to combine magic is fun as hell. Playing Tales of Arise gives me the feeling that I am inside that fantasy world and adventuring together with the party. Especially within the combat where they smash the enemy and help me on their own, it just feels like they are all real people fighting and adventuring together with me.
Western RPGs in general give you a feeling like you are solo playing and the story plot and combat system are usually one-main-character focused. These qualities are not in itself a bad thing but they are just not my preference. On the other hand, while there are modern Japanese RPGs that are enjoyable like Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Scarlet Nexus, and Persona 5 that have the quality of party adventure that I love, they don't have a classic medieval fantasy setting that I am yearning for. You know, the classic medieval fantasy setting like the ones that you see in Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, Final Fantasy 6, 9, 10 (and hopefully 16 too!!) or in the typical Japanese isekai manga/anime like Mushoku Tensei, Slime Tensei, Cautious Hero, Re:Zero, Shield Hero, etc.
If you like these two qualities (ie. classic medieval fantasy and party adventure) you will probably be going to like Tales of Arise too. I am happy that Arise introduces me to the Tales series. I will definitely try some of the previous Tales games later.… Expand

Even masterful games such as FF7 Remake, Witcher 3, Dragon Age, Mass Effect, and others really weren't igniting anything in me that kept me engaged for even half an hour. On a whim, I decided to purchase Tales of Arise and try it out. Man. Let me tell you. One of the best purchases I've made this entire year in terms of gaming. The cast of characters are so intriguing, and each of them have dynamic and thoughtful backstories and motivations. The voice acting cast is absolutely fantastic. Honestly in a world where most people skip cutscenes or speed through dialogue, doing so in this game would be a complete disservice to the amazing plotline, and even yourself for missing out on some of the really thought and feeling provoking interractions and story arcs. The battle system is the icing on the cake here, with a near seamless combination of tactical and free flowing combat that feels somewhere between vintage RPG and Devil May Cry. Every single time I play this game, finding a stopping point seems harder and harder, as the impulse is to keep playing to see where the story is going next. Plus, you cant help but to feel emotionally invested in the characters and their goals and motivations. If I could rate this game higher than 5 stars, I definitely would… Expand

I would have loved to see after ending events of what happened between the characters that would have concluded the story a bit farther. The combat is not balanced, some boss was a lots harder i had to actually drop the difficulty. The AI is not that good, your friendly characters will not avoid danger. I feel the game was made so that you have to take DLC at one point.. if you don't you will easily have to grind a lots.
