  • Summary: Unepic is a combination of platforming and role playing games. There are many hilarious references throughout the game. The game takes place in Harnakon, a huge medieval castle.

It is set in the hardcore NES Style, yet refined with the latest features. This makes Unepic a very unique game.

UnEpic is an RPG/Platformer with some chops, but some questionable design choices and input issues hold it back. The gameplay is solid for fans of Metroidvanias, but does nothing new to distinguish itself in the genre.

When you take everything into account, UnEpic on the PS Vita is quite a nice little port. Sure, the framerate sometimes struggles, and you don’t quite have as much information available to you in an instant, but the game feels right at home on the handheld, and the refined visual presentation is a boon.

Which speaks to Unepic's bigger problem: that, like many parodies, it ends up being exactly what it's trying to poke fun at. Add in a sense of humor that you're probably more likely to find annoying, and you can see why you might be better off looking for a Metroidvania fix elsewhere.

Perfect handheld game if you like oldschool Metroidvania RPG's. First off I'd like to say that I don't think I've played a game with betterPerfect handheld game if you like oldschool Metroidvania RPG's. First off I'd like to say that I don't think I've played a game with better mapped controls on the Vita than this little gem, a lot of thought was put into the controls and they're perfect (no back touch pad either, thank you!). The game took me just over 20 hours to beat, the music is great, the writing is great, the story is fun, the map is fun to explore and varied, enemies are varied, bosses are great. Combat mechanics are pretty basic, but the combat itself is extremely deep. I've been quite burnt out on indie games to be honest, especially with the constant trash PS+ offers, but I'm really glad I picked this game up, it's now up there as one of my favorite indie games along side Trine and Transistor.
