It has points where you must grind for levels much like an RPG. It’s also not for people with short attention spans, and its difficulty at times (just a touch below Sonic Riders’s learning curve—you’ll have to practice stages over and over to get them right) makes it not for people who give up at challenging games easily (poor folks). Still, none of these points makes this entry any less valid.
While the mini-games aren't great and there are still a few niggles when it comes to trial and error gameplay at times, there is finally a real reason to be optimistic for the future of Sega's mascot for the first time in a long time.
Sonic And The Secret Rings Was My Childhood Game When I Got A Wii, It Was The Best Sonic Game Ever Made, It Deserve More Than 6.3 User Score, It's My Favorite Sonic And Wii Game Ever Made.
I'll do say this game is close to solid due to the Wiimotes' motion controls, but the soundtrack sounds great, the graphics are okay, and the cutscenes are decent, because the animation is lazy.
Overall the multiplayer experience is sort very vanilla. This is mostly because the games don’t feel very innovative and the formula itself has been done more than Paris Hilton by the Mario Party series and other Wii mini-game titles like WarioWare and Rayman Raving Rabbids.
Sonic and the Secret Rings offers moments of greatness where I find myself caught up in the intensity of the experience and, oppositely, moments where I want to pull my hair out or throw the Wii remote down because of imprecise control or insulting design choices.
There’s a fine-line between rote-learning frustration and seat-of-the-pants glee in on-rails arcade games, and Secret Rings wobbles either side of it perceptibly, but seldom stays on the wrong side for too long. [Apr 2007, p.81]
From its incongruous RPG-style leveling up to its endless recycling of levels to its utterly ridiculous Arabian Nights-themed story, Sonic and the Secret Rings feels horribly padded from top to bottom.
NOTE : This review Is telling my experience with the game after playing it again this year after a long time. This review was done with a fresh save.
Sonic and the secret rings is one of the sonic games that I cherish most. Growing up, I loved to play this game, but as time passed, my wii broke. This year, I decided to start secret rings and black knights from a fresh perspective, as I have not heard much about the game prior to my playthrough this year. I won't spoiler this gem for you, reader, but please. Give Secret Rings a chance! An issue that might be annoying at first, would be the motion controlls. But, you can actually get used to them very quickly! Sonic and the secret rings is one of my favourite sonic games (If not my favourite), and you should give It a try!
Before you read, know that this is the second Sonic game whose main quest I ever beat (first was Black Knight), and will always be nostalgic for me. Now, to the game. People will complain about the controls, to which I agree, to some extent. They are not, however, the worst in the series *Free Riders*. The soundtrack, like any Sonic game, is great. The story is actually pretty solid. While it is the worse game in the storybook saga, it is still a decent game.
The concept of Secret rings and the story are good and it has an awesome ending cutscene, but I won't spoil it and the story is decent. however unfortunately, the gameplay is awful. Unlike Sonic and the black knight, it relies on motion controls way too much which makes the gameplay unbearable at times. The game is actually fun once you have completed it and levelled up Sonic's control, but at the start and through the game, it's just bad. It's a shame, bc the level design and layout are good. Also, at the start of the game, you have to complete so many annoying and useless missions that are not fun in the slightest and every time you start and finish a mission the games main theme, "Seven rings in hand" play, and it gets on your nerves quickly, which is annoying bc it's a good song and the rest of the game has a decent soundtrack. Not worth the money, but good try sonic team and Sega. I'm just thankful that they fixed a lot of the problems with this game in 2009's Sonic and the Black knight, which is a good, underrated game that I recommend anyone tries out.
When a game is based on press the button in the correct time, the controllers should work properly, but this is not what happens. There are skills to "improve" the Sonic's moviment when you get experience, but these things must already be in the main control.
The theme song plays always when you finish a mission. The song is good, but it is cloying because of it.
To stop Sonic, you should press a button, this is really frustrated.
A lot of missions are just the same stage before, but a rampage variation or another kind of mission.
About the story... silly.
The game is really fun, but the wii remote are not configurated to play it.
SummaryThe game opens as Sonic is mysteriously transported to the world of The Arabian Nights where he encounters a mystical genie, Shahra. Shahra pleads with Sonic to save her world from the powerful evil genie, Erazor Djinn. As the story unfolds, Erazor confronts Sonic and pulls him into his evil plans. Sonic has a limited time to deliver Era...
