While Bioware might be called out for playing it a bit safe and sticking to an already familiar MMO formula, the game still has plenty to keep both Star Wars and MMO fans engaged. If you're looking for a fleshed-out MMO that isn't as overcrowded as WoW, then this is the game for you.
I have been playing this game since neaqr launch, it has grown so much in terms of content and is by far imo the best mmorpg out there, a healthy RP base and PVP base, some great guilds , a non toxic gen player base.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is a massive multiplayer online role-playing game that takes players on an immersive journey through the Star Wars universe. As a player, you have the chance to choose your own path and become a hero or villain, with your choices impacting the course of the game.
One of the things that sets The Old Republic apart from other MMORPGs is its rich and detailed storytelling. The game features fully voiced dialogue for all characters, which really helps bring the world to life and makes you feel like you're a part of the action. Each character has their own unique story, and the choices you make throughout the game can have lasting consequences.
The gameplay in The Old Republic is also top-notch. There are eight different classes to choose from, each with their own unique abilities and playstyles. Whether you prefer ranged combat, melee combat, or healing/support roles, there's a class that will suit your playstyle.
Another great feature of The Old Republic is its focus on player choice. You can customize your character's appearance, choose their skills and abilities, and even make moral decisions that will affect your character's alignment and reputation. This gives players a sense of agency and ownership over their characters, which can be incredibly rewarding.
Overall, Star Wars: The Old Republic is a fantastic game that offers hours of immersive gameplay and storytelling. Whether you're a die-hard Star Wars fan or just looking for a great MMORPG, this game is definitely worth checking out.
The Old Republic is here to stay, and offers epic galactic adventures making the most of the Star Wars universe. Although it doesn't evolve the gameplay of the genre, with a very conservative style, it takes a leap in improving the narrative, successfully achieving to tell a great story. We are eagerly waiting for updates and improvements in the future.
Star Wars: The Old Republic is an MMO founded upon a conservative, yet improving mentality. It delievers a great amount of good content within the Star Wars universe, and is by far one of the best games this genre has seen the last ten years.
BioWare has done what many thought might be impossible, and delivered the world's second ever triple-A MMO. That is a mighty achievement and a huge relief. But it may yet turn out to be too little - or rather, too much - too late.
A MMORPG that doesn't differentiate itself very much from other popular MMORPG titles (like World of Warcraft), but with a greater focus on story, companions and of course the Star Wars setting, The Old Republic is still a solid game.
This game is worth is if you love star wars and a respectable RPG story line (some classes are better than others).
TL;DR: fun enough for someone looking for some star wars action, but well past its prime.
By 2021 standards graphics are mediocre with a very poor color scheme which will leave you playing your PCs in every shade of brown, but hey, the movies are pretty much jedi=brown, sith=black, so it is true to the franchise.
Aesthethics aside, the game had a far amount of enjoyment, less so for returning players, but very much so for new to the game.
It's respectable even as creaky and out of date as it is. Hopefully, there will be a decent, up to date successor eventually.
Seriously one of the best MMORPGs out there, and can we just take a moment to appriciate that everything is voiced!
You even get to chose your own moral compass, not at lot of games let you do this these days!
BUT BUT BUT
It IS full of EAs slimy microtransactions.
The game IS from 2012, so it's not the prettiest of games, still really good considering!
I loved KOTOR 1 and 2, and since SWTOR was free, I decided to give it a whirl. Sorry I did. I wasted about 3 days and $15 on a subscription trying to get into it, but just couldn't. I'm not a huge fan of MMOs but there are a few that I love. This game is not one of them. Let me break down the good and bad points.
100% Free To Play
Both PVE and PVP choices
Great character creation and customization
Lots of quests
Lots of weapons/Armor
Pretty nice loot system
Huge game world
Terribly outdated graphics
Boring and repetitive side quests
All the main story lines are garbage
Poor voice acting on many characters
Ambient sounds lack realism
Combat system is not very good
Limited healing options when solo
Limited options to actually play solo
I guess that's about it. In closing, I'll give this horrible attempt at a Star Wars game a 4 for effort.
Is SWTOR worth returning to in 2019? No, let me tell you why. The game has a hard time finding it's identity, is it a true MMO meant to be played with friends? Or is it more single player focused? I have no idea, and these two genres conflict with each other, the main story is memorable but it's awkward to see other Sith Warriors with the same mission as me. Combat is stylish but simple, every attack is simply an attack but in a different way, there are other abilities but they sure are simple. The graphics are extremely outdated making it a painful experience to watch. When it comes to side quests, Bioware has gone with quantity over quality, which I don't agree with. Every side quest is the same, you either go somewhere and kill something or you go somewhere and make a moral decision. Speaking of decisions, the good choices did not make me feel good since it did not impact the world around me, and the bad decisions made me want to make more bad decisions because I was bored with them. When really the bad decisions should have made me feel uncomfortable. Every character is poorly voice acted, they show no emotion. Enemies don't have any depth, most don't even talk when they see you, all they do is make **** grunting noises. I would say don't waste your money on this game, but the game is free, so don't waste your time getting it.
