It's not a bad game, but after four or so years, it just feels like it ought to be better. [Issue #31 – January/February 2018, p. 35E]

Sonic Forces isn't a particularly bad game, it's just a game that never seems to find it's true potential. An overly complicated story and some design flaws stop Sonic Forces just shy of greatness, leaving a decent enough experience to enjoy.

It’s not a great game, but it’s solid. It looks nice, plays smooth, and the gameplay variety is solid. It’s an average 3D Sonic game at a budget price, and that’s not really a bad thing.

Sonic Forces is a disappointing rehash of everything that has been done wrong with the Sonic franchise in the past. There were some good ideas here, but none of them were executed in a way that was fun or enjoyable.

It's mostly just exceedingly average. Levels are short enough where I never once felt like they were a chore to complete, and there's enough variation in there in terms of setpieces where you can really start to see the framework of an expansive, epic Sonic. Hopping around Eggman's base in space while navigating moving platforms gives me flashbacks to the great pair of Sonic Adventure games -- a simpler time.

Sonic Forces ultimately fails to advance the mechanics of previously successful 3D Sonic games, or present them in their best light. A mediocre platformer at best, Sonic Forces manages to do nothing more than reinforce long held stereotypes against Sega's beloved blue blur.

Sonic Forces may have created some hype but unfortunately, it mostly falls flat on its face as it quickly becomes obvious that this game is an exercise in disappointment. While the action runs smoothly whether on a television screen or on handheld mode, the game's short and unimaginative levels, the absence of gameplay mechanics that had become a staple of 3D Sonic games, the unreliable controls and the mediocre soundtrack all add up to a very flawed game from which a lot more was expected.

im seeing a lot of people that review this with much hate and saying that this is bad with any reason, personally, i think this game are a 9im seeing a lot of people that review this with much hate and saying that this is bad with any reason, personally, i think this game are a 9 rate game, but i put 10 cause some things are awesome for me, the gameplay is perfect, the frenetic speed are awesome, the history are good, the music is the best ost in all sonic series, really a like this game, all the people who qualify this game under 6, is because they are blinded by the opinion of the pages like IGNorance or others, who says that a game is bad cause its have much water (fun fact: in the 90´s they says that the game was awesome, and they like the water levels) but this really doesnt matter, the sensationalist reviews cant make a perfect game into a bad game.
other point that all says, is that the game is really short, really? well, if you play any game in its story (like all the cod) the duration of the story is like only 2-4 hours, the duration of sonic forces are 6 hours and 4 hours if you play really good, but, what makes a cod or any other game with a short story a good game? the gameplay, cod is popular because its online is addictive , and this happen with all the games with a good online, but, forces doesnt have an online, but the content like the red star, numeric, and silver moon rings in all levels, the trophies/archivements, the posibilities in all the levels with the wispon tools, the personalisation of the avatar, all the secrets and the mission and SOS missions are really fun, i have played 13 hours in this 2 days, are this a bit of hours and a short game? dude, mario odyssey has a duration of 10 aproximate hours of gameplay, but, if u play and play and complete the 100% of the game, you can take more than 50 hours, the same thing with forces.
well, i can say too that the gameplay is so funny, i can play the first level more than 100 times, and i still seeing it very funny, i say a lot with this, or not?
the music is awesome, you will love it if you like genders like rock, rap, classic music, electronic, pop, the music is so good that when i was playing one level, my sister ask for the singer, she who really doesnt know about the game, even so like the music.
the graphics are awesome, i play it in a 4k tv and it really seem like a movie, some backgrounds really are bewtiful, and the simple fact that the game runs in 60fps, is really a blessing.
well, I will not say anything else, please, dont hate games, some jews like this game are really harmed by hate reviews that doesnt says anything about the game, so please, be a true gamer, and play and write a good review about a game with a clear point of view.

Pretty much from the start I enjoyed this game for a while, until I beat the game. In my opinion the game was lacking much needed detail and explanations. The game was pretty short and didn’t focus on the storyline and instead more on the game itself. The storyline of the game was decent but it could have been improved. It seemed pretty rushed and unfinished. There were a lot of plotholes and unexplained events. SegaⓇ tried to bring back Classic Sonic from a previous game but that character didn’t really contribute much to the storyline and they never really explained his purpose for being in this game. Same goes for the villain.

The main villain, Infinite, was not all that great. He really had no backstory or real reason to be in the game. In the games first cutscene you are lead to think that Dr Eggman ( Sonic’s arch-enemy) had created Infinite and the Phantom Ruby (basically The Phantom Ruby is a gemstone that creates powerful illusions that cause panic and confusion) when really that’s not the case. They tried to give him a backstory in the downloadable content but it was weak and unnecessary. Then there was a weird time jump where Sonic has been captured and Eggman takes over 99% of the planet. Sonic’s friends form a small resistance to battle against Eggman. This point is where they tried to bring in your customized character to the storyline but it was clumsy and really did not contribute much. The main levels consisted of two-dimensional levels for Classic Sonic and three-dimensional levels for modern Sonic and your custom character.

The final boss was a big disappointment. (Spoiler Alert) it was just Eggman in a super beefed-up robot powered by the Phantom Ruby. The game ends with the world being saved and Classic Sonic going back to his universe. So to sum it all up if the developers had spent a little more time on the plot and added more levels, the game could have been better. The levels were fun and the character creator was fun but unnecessary. I would rate the game a 6 out of 10. It was pretty entertaining but very short and (if given the time) I could beat it in one day. They sacrificed a good storyline for decent level designs. They really tried to cram too much into this game. It was not one of my all time favorites. A better game that I would recommend is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. It has a great storyline and is seemingly endless.
