Ultimately, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 represents the pinnacle of the series, both gameplay-wise and narratively. The characters are another highlight of the game. They are well-drawn, with only a small amount of formulaicness. [Issue#321]
At its core, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a story of the pursuit of freedom and the endless possibilities of the future - and as a game, it's the embodiment of that theme, with an unrestrictive world and a blueprint for how to build a masterpiece JRPG moving forward.
XC3 is my first experience into the Xenoblades franchise. Currently, I am only 10 hours into play and cannot praise this game enough. Its complexity gives the game a mature feeling with plenty and learn and do, while the beautiful, open world exploration blends wonderfully with the quality soundtrack music. Some have mentioned the music was too loud to hear the voices, but I have yet to adjust any of the sound parameters. Already, I am interested in buying the Expansion Pass! XC3 is one of the best games on my Switch Lite.
XC3 is quite possibly the best game of all time. It was perfect all around the board. The cutscenes made you feel the same emotion the characters were feeling in game, the characters were all dynamic and had incredible backstory’s, and development that really allow you to understand each character on a higher level. adding to the perfect blend of emotion character development is the visuals, breathtaking graphics also help you really feel what’s going on in the game. The graphics also help enhance the amazing and expansive world that monolithsoft has created, filled to the brim with cool areas to discover, and if your a veteran, areas from the previous games as well. Even just looking across the land from a high peak will put you in awe of the beautiful world. The combat is also amazing, with complex systems and mechanics that allow you to have your own style of combat, and hit clips on all the enemies. The boss fights are amazing, which most bosses having a backstory just as good as the protagonists, it allows for truly amazing fights. The gameplay in XC3 is also amazing, it is easily picked up by anyone and allows for an experience that anyone can enjoy. Xenoblade chronicles as a series has one of the best story’s any game has to offer, and XC3 completely wraps up the story from the other games, alongside having a mind blowing story of its own. Overall the story is flawless, and will leave anyone in awe after completion of the game. Should you finish the game, which would take a long time due to the sheer amount of content (40-60 hours of main story and plenty of side content to keep you busy as well), you can purchase a DLC that does nothing but improve upon what is in the base game. And the cherry on top is the amazing soundtrack paired with the game, the music fits perfectly with all the environments that it’s played it. All the music in the overworld perfectly pairs with your surroundings, and the other music does the exact same. Overall a flawless game, and would 10/10 recommend.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is one of the games of the year. There are moments that will make you laugh, get involved with what's happening... And also cry. The combat adds layers in a tremendously effective way throughout the many hours of gameplay, while the exploration and pacing of the title never fail to take totally effective turns. Perhaps it could have risked a little more in a couple of moments, which would make it rise to the Olympus of J-RPGs, but it is still one of the best titles of this genre in recent years.
This epic adventure is the culmination of the series. The world is vast and filled with combat sequences while also providing an engaging plot to suck you in.
Another major success for Monolith Soft; Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a contender for the Nintendo Switch’s best role-playing game and one of its most impressive technical achievements.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 perfectly combines threads from previous
instalments while remaining welcoming to newcomers. It’s based on very
enjoyable combat mechanics and offers an interesting world to explore,
but it’s a shame that dated graphics and intrusive invisible walls make
it look like it was released a few years ago. I’m also disappointed that
the developers decided to stick to what worked well twice before instead
of making a step forward that the series could use.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 just cannot get out of its own way. This is, after all, a game that provides a tutorial on how to complete tutorials, and it keeps piling on slight mechanics well into the 20-hour range.
I need to preface this by the fact I've played and essentially completed every Xenoblade Chronicles game to date. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the most polished the series has been, but unfortunately did not live up to its ambitions and may even do "dirty" its previous numbered titles by mischaracterizing beloved characters at times with underdeveloped plot elements. It leaves far too many plot elements unanswered and feels undercooked in its execution toward the end unfortunately.
-The world itself leaves much to be desired from a gameplay standpoint compared to its predecessors. It has an ambitious combat system that drags players back to the more simple gameplay of Xenoblade 1 and mixes it with some elements of 2 in ways that make battles drag out longer than they probably should.
-The gameplay gets too repetitive compared to much superior combat system of 2 (or Torna).
-I think the developers really went out of there way to present well animated cutscenes that are the best in the series in terms of production, but sometimes it is a bit too much and re-treads too much on the previous games in ways that are not productive at all for advancing the story. I don't need 3 cutscenes when I'm running down a hill that takes three times as long as they need to, just present one cutscene that does it all then take me back to the gameplay.
-I think in terms of feedback, they over-corrected on potential flaws of previous games. The tutorials are way too long and drawn out for repeat plays. On the other hand, it is easily the most accessible the series has been since 1.
-It never resolves plot threads that it should be considering, and leaves much to be desired for what it is trying to execute. Don't bring previous games into your game if you don't make it worth it. As a huge fan of the 2nd game that loved it to bits, to leave many core elements unsettled was strange.
-The game could have existed without needing to bring 1 & 2's universes into this game, it felt totally not merited. The actual story it was trying to tell got dragged down as a result.
-The event system for quests are a bit confusing at times. You try to find out how to activate an ascension quest sometimes, and it depends on a quest, but the game doesn't inform you of which quest you're on. This happened at least 3 times on my playthrough and left much frustration on where/what I was to do next.
-The hero system, which is this game's "equivalent" to the blade system of 2, can lead players to become over-levelled for many parts of the game, making the gameplay far too stale too quickly. This is because unlike the blade system, the hero quests provide a ton of EXP up front through required quests you can at many times do at any time, rather than earning it. You can essentially just do side-questing with hero quests, and be way too overlevelled for the main story that you are walking through main quests not fighting any regular enemies. It breaks the immersion of the game considerably. Also the hero system, unlike the blade system, does not encourage replays in NG+.
-At this time, there's little reason to do a NG+.
The game, while a step forward in production, was definitely a step backwards in storytelling and gameplay from Xenoblade Chronicles 2, which is arguably a better game overall. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a very ambitious title, and I respect the developers for their attempt, but they need to remember to focus on making the plot stronger and not re-use previous games in the way they did, it could have been much better. Without spoiling anything, the entire plot of this game could be rewritten out of existence if the previous games ended in a better way (that this game confirms didn't happen, unfortunately).
+ Soundtrack is nice, though it still pales in comparison to XC1, XC2 and even XCX
+ World and enemy design are exactly what you would expect from a Xenoblade title
- Storytelling and dialogue is absolute drivel that makes no sense
- Protagonists and villains alike are utterly unlikeable
- Character class systems are too malleable, making every character play the same
- Chain attack system breaks boss fights in an unforgiveable manner
- Graphics and abysmal draw distance somehow look worse than XC2
Just One Word: BORING.. nothing more than boring.. silly story/dialogues, totally unrewarding gameplay and terrible graphic quality (on TV)
let me go to play another Yakuza..
