Although ToS as it is today is full of shortcomings and technical problems, we hope that sooner or later it gets fixed. It’s been too long since we’ve seen a MMORPG that features enchanted chests which can be opened only at specific time, rewards you for pronouncing proper phrase in front of a magic obelisk, and has entire locations that are hidden away and can be discovered only through thoughtful exploration. People are being really unfair with this game. I am having a great time playing ToS. Every MMO have some issues at launch, that’s completely normal, even games from HUGE companies like NCSOLF or Square Enix.
Thinks I Like:
• ToS have great art style, music and animations.
• Questing is fun with real time cinematic and some epic moments.
• Story is really good if u take the time to read it
• Every time you choose a class you will get an unique costume
• The map is HUGE, I mean you spend most of the time 30-90 minutes one every zone before change (doing all the quests and exploring the full area).
• Crafting is simple and effective.
• Everyone can actually play the game without subscription, you can now trade (limited) and sell on the AH (limited) as free player. * Limited to avoid free players to easily get money from gold sellers. But also everyone can buy a token (30 days sub) using in game money (not sooo expensive).
• The game runs on 32 bits systems (notebooks) with little requirements.
• Customizable controls, default is good for casual play if you get used to.
• No P2W.
Thinks ToS need to improve:
• FPS drop on populated zones (they are already announce are working on it)
• Auction House times to get money is excessive O.o
• The game have Gold Sellers and Bots like MOST of the MMO on the market, they are also working on that, you can always report or block spammers.
• Being a Templar to create a Guild hurts, is hard to find a guild as newbie atm
Excellent game!!! Even with the early release flows. The game has amazing atmosphere the music is very cool and get you into the spirit of playing. I really recommend it to old school player you will love it
Reviewing based on 130 hours played of Early Access.
Pros:
- Beautiful and colorful environment/maps.
- Phenomenal music.
- A ton of different classes to mix and match for every Class tree.
- Great controls especially with a controller.
Cons:
- Linearity that is uncharacteristic of the MMO genre. Unless you purposely stray from the efficient way of leveling, you will find your characters doing the EXACT same playthroughs.
- Lack of fun or challenging content, the fun you experience mostly comes from the satisfaction of your character growth, admiring cool looking maps, and enjoying the music.
- Game's story and quests are either just decent or really boring. Many players skip through the text, but for people who care about the lore and stuff, there isn't much here that's worth your time. Still, good effort.
Game has potential to be better after some formula adjustments, but even then, its old-gen design philosophy is simply no longer to my liking.
(Old MMO Philosophy - Limited content but stretched artificially to give the game longevity. i.e. hours upon hours of grinding for 1 level. "Lazy" but efficient way to keep players in the game.
Modern MMO Philosophy - Keeps the game alive by constantly adding more content. Requires a lot more work and commitment from the developers.)
Game should be in BETA because it's all kinds of broken. It's still fun to play if you can get past the bugs, glitches & the fact that basic game mechanics like repsecs & character customization are locked behind paywalls.
PROS
-Custom Classes
-Good Graphics
-Plays well with Controllers
CONS
-Bad Default KB/M Controls
-Bugs & Glitches
-FPS Stutters
-Pay Only Customization
-Pay Only Respecs
-Bad Crafting System
-Can't Buyback Items from Shops
-Very bad skill upgrade system
-Obvious Cash Grabbing
-Gold Spammers & Bots
-Game Gives Misinformation
-Too many Gold Sinks
-Very Grindy
CONTROLS & GAMEPLAY
You start the game choosing between 4 basic starter classes. Swordsman, Archer, Mage & Cleric. The first advanced class option is available at level 15. I chose the swordsman since it's my default starting choice for most RPG's. You have 2 experience bars. One for your class & the other for your level & each time they fill up you get a point for skills & stats. Stats are basic STR, DEX, INT, SPI, CON. They do what you think they do if you're familiar with RPG's.
When you make your character you can choose their gender & hair style. That's it. No hair colors, no body types, no face types, no hair colors, no skin colors, no clothe colors, etc. Everything is sold to you in the cash shop because, why not? Also, if you mess up your build be prepared to either start over, deal with it or pay real money for a respec scroll.
The biggest complaint I have with the gameplay besides the controls is there is no collision detection between you & enemy NPC's. So, playing as a melee trying to attack at awkward set angles is even more tedious when enemies keep running through me. Enemies will sometimes even run away which is even more annoying for a melee like me since you run so god damn slow & they run at least 2x faster than you do so you gotta chase them down every single time.
CRAFTING
So I got far enough into the game to check out the crafting system & it's kind of an odd one. So you can buy recipes or find them in the wild or off of quests. You need materials to craft the item obviously & you can theoretically craft anything you have a recipe for, HOWEVER, one of the ingredients IS the recipe itself. So, once you craft said recipe it's gone. You need another recipe to craft it again. That's just stupid, especially when the recipe is listed in the journal once you pick it up. It's the equivilant of having a cookbook to show you how to cook & throwing the book into the pot with all the ingredients. It makes no sense at all other than to give you more reason to grind to earn another cookbook every time you want to cook something even though you have another perfectly good cookbook that can't be used for some reason.
MISINFORMATION IN THE GAME
Yea, I'm fine with figuring out stuff on my own but like I said, some things aren't explained or just have straight up misinformation on them. Like "Right Click to add to the Adventure Journal" or "Recipe's are learned once you use them". Flat out misinformation. You can't learn recipes at all (not in the traditional sense anyways) & everything you pick up is added to the journal right away. I had to figure that out on my own because the game flat out lies to you & not in a Dark Souls kind of way, either. Then there's the 2h swords, they have a description that says, "Level 15 Swordsman Required". What that actually means is, "2H Sword Skill Required." You can learn the skill but you need a specific advanced class to learn it. Basically vendors lieing about their products to get you to buy them only to find out you can't use it.
OVERALL
Negatives aside I am still enjoying the game because I like the class system but I can't recommend it because it's just so broken & it's using the usual BS F2P Monetization that I oh so love to hate. FPS constantly stutters & can dip below 10FPS. Constant lag & rubber banding. I even had a glitch that forced me to restart the game to fix it involving an elevator in the first dungeon. Another situation where there was a gold spammer spamming so much my FPS dropped to about 5 & I couldn't move. If you try this game just be prepared for a lot of lag & constant BS from the usuall F2P garbage.
Now don't get me wrong, I want to like this game. I like the graphics, custom classes & once you get used to the controls (or figure out there's a mouse option) they aren't that bad. It's everything else that makes me think this game is garbage. The obvious cash grabbing, the waste of time skill upgrade system, the stupid crafting system that requires multiple recipes even though you have the recipe in a journal, etc. It's just bad man. Bad game design in general meant to pad the experience.
The game is in a terrible state as of now. It should never be released as it is. Terrible performance and stupid design decisions (limited trade, timed skill leveling, timed money making, timed access to dungeons) prevents you from progressing at a reasonable pace. It feels slow and ultimately you'll feel like you're in this beautiful world but you're always in that cage preventing you from experiencing it. It's cool that there's this Ragnarok feeling in art style and combat, but that's not reason enough to play it seriously. I still play it from time to time because I'm curious to see how it develops into higher class tiers, and I wanted it to be a playable. But I must say the "adventure" it's terribly hard to endure.
The game as a lot of classes which makes it u really unbalanced especially in pvp. It also a pay to win with tons of greeding and farming and of course RNG.
SummaryTree of Savior is an MMORPG in which you embark on a journey to search for the goddesses in the world of chaos. Fairy-tale like colors accompanied with beautiful graphics in TOS will have you reminiscing about precious moments all throughout the game.
