    Fallout 76 takes a brave step forward in a risky multiplayer proposal, but due to its unclear intentions and a poor performance overall it will need time and effort to please its fans.

    Fallout 76 fails at many things, but its core gameplay still is fun and engaging. This is enough to keep you going, but it is not what you would expect from an online-based AAA, and even if all the bugs can be fixed, there are many things (combat, mission design, inventory system) that would be much harder to fix.

    Fallout 76 is fun to play; the simple loop of scavenging and exploration and crafting and progression works well when you’re in a group. Alone, it gets pretty old pretty fast - especially when dealing with bugs and glitches and performance woes. Ultimately it’s disappointing that the size and scope of the multiplayer doesn’t match the impressive West Virginia you get to explore.

    A fascinating world and several good ideas are ruined by lots of technical problems and some design choices that make Fallout 76 almost unplayable. When it works, it can really shine; but this happens very rarely at the moment.

    We tried so hard to like Fallout 76, but the game didn’t allow us to do it.
  6. I can’t recommend Fallout 76 to more than a handful of people. A niche few will still be drawn to it, perhaps out of curiosity, a completionist’s need to devour all things Fallout, or, like me, a morbid desire to simulate life after the end of the world. For everyone else, hold onto the hope that Bethesda learns a lesson from this failed experiment.

    There are no redeeming features to be found in Fallout 76, and I’m not even sure if it can be saved. Technical issues just make what’s a boring and soulless experience at its core into something that’s simply more of an abomination.

Ignore the zero reviews, it's just entitled brats that are mad its not New Vegas 2. I will say playing with a group is way more enjoyable than playing solo. Expand

Not so much the content or game play. That was never really an issue. Though once I got through all the main quests, it did get boring, but Wild Appalachia and other updates helped spice things up. Wastelanders has made the game feel more like Fallout 4, which I really appreciate. I always liked this game, it was the crashes that drove me crazy, but that has improved over time. Expand

I'm about 25-30 hours in and I'm having a blast I start to act like a kid again when I have the time to sit down and play. The people who do play the game are really nice and I've never had a bad experience inside the game. It has a lot of work to be done but Bethesda has said they will be actively supporting the game "forever". This game has a lot to do and explore and many hours of fun. Expand

    Is this the Fallout that people loved? it is. However, it's like the kid voted "Most Likely to Succeed" and goes on to become an utterly hopeless junkie. They're still the same person, but just the worst version of themselves.

    Let's discuss the graphics first. The game is slightly better looking than Fallout 4, but isn't as polished. You'll see tons of clipping issues, and you'll also see tons of things floating instead of resting on the ground.

    The gameplay for the most part is the same as Fallout 4, except they made VATS real time. VATS occasionally works, and when it doesn't it's frustrating. Like, when you have 95% chance to smash a Stingwing with your super sledge, just to hear the thump of the hit and see your AP go down and the Stingwing take 0 damage. Then you see the same result the next 4 times you try it. VATS is only really useful to close distance in Melee or to land a shot on an extremely agile enemy.

    Then there's the stash issue, and the fact that they lowered the base carry limit from the prior games. So having strength of 10 only gives you 200 units of weight you can carry before you become encumbered, and they give you 400 units for stash. Not to mention, this game is set in the "survival mode" of the previous Fallout 4 and New Vegas. So everything has weight. Oh, and good luck trying to sell anything. Vending machines have 200 caps to buy, and yet you can't sell to them. Vendor bots and various traveling merchants have 200 caps available to buy and it takes forever for them to restock; and when you buy from them, only a small percentage of the caps are returned to the vendors available caps. Also, you can't sell most items. When you can, you get pennies on the dollar; even with max haggling perks, everything always is sold to you at a significant mark up. This inventory issue was the biggest complaint throughout the BETA, and it's unacceptable that it wasn't fixed prior to launch. I've spent 99% of my time in game over-encumbered and unable to fast travel. I've been super encumbered, and forced to crawl , for way too long. That's with weight reducing perks and other tricks.

    Then there are the broken quests. How do I love having my quest giver reside on the SW corner of the map and my objective being on the NE corner and get to the objective just to realise you can't interact with the object in order to complete the quest. Then another you need to search an area and install a tracking signal; only to have the tracking signal stop working; and when you quit, you have no way to install it again, so you it makes finding the item like looking for a needle in a haystack. I've come across at least 3 quests with quest breaking bugs.

    Death in Fallout 76 is like Dark Souls, just instead of dropping all your souls on death you drop all your junk in a, at times hard to see, brown paper bag with all the junk you've accumulated. Usually, when you try to retrieve it while you have a marker to guide you, you either get ambushed by some radically OP mob of enemies like Death Claws, Glowing Ones, Wendigo, Scorchbeast and Yao Gui. They also have a real problem with enemy and weapon balancing, which can be compounded by getting swarmed by the mob of top of the food chain. I hit a KIng Mirelark with 2 mini-nukes, and it may have only took 1/4 of their health; and it was equivalent to the level of the Fatman I was using. Yet, back to my point on retrieving your loot after death, if you die before retrieving it, good luck trying to find it then afterwards. You'll still 400 units over encumbrance. Also, people can take your stuff if they get to it before you do.

    Bounty system is broken, and because of it there is no way to escape PvP. You can open a nonplayer owned box, that clearly doesn't have a player owned item in it, only to get a message that you have a bounty for stealing another player's stuff. Yet when you actually take another player's loot from a world loot box, you get nothing. If you have "pacifist" mode on, it's literally like stealing candy from a baby for anyone hunting you. You do significantly less damage and they can do full. So never, ever, ever, put on "pacifist" mode. Player's can still kill you, and they usually wait to wail on you while you're in someway indisposed so they can whittle you to death, if you never intend to engage them back; and then they get a bounty for murder. You get like 10 caps for a bounty, and basic ammo is like 5 caps each at a vendor.

    Final verdict, is the game fun or have some redeeming qualities? Yes, it can be fun. Even with the "emptiness" and lack of civilized life, it has potential. The fact that they knew about these issues by no later than day 2 of the BETA and failed to fix it by launch, is why the scores, and mine, are so low.

The story is as thin as a cheap soup. When, after 1 hour of playing the game, you wonder *why* you're playing the game it is not good. Apparently, someone else, the "Overseer", got a mission to complete, and you're tagging along *after* that someone. Let's hope they succeed because I doubt I will ever bother running after them long enough to find out what happens next.

    Technology-wise, it is Bethesda at its *finest*. Bugs-galore. Performance is right out. I have an Xbox One X and when I say the game chugs along at 15-ish fps in public events I'm being generous. Couple that with the game not reacting under those conditions and you got a recipe for disaster. Forget firing your gun at mobs, or even moving, if it's not the terrain bogging you down it's the melee attacks of the mobs, which under 10-15fps you simply cannot outrun or move away from. Forget about getting a stimpack going and surviving, that's right out.

    If this game ran at 60fps or had better graphics on my Xbox One X I could see it as a technology demo but right now it is far from a demo of anything but mediocrity.

    This is not "Fallout with multiplayer", this is a multiplayer walking simulator with guns, in a Fallout world, nothing more.

    Give this one a pass. They can patch out all the bugs, even improve the performance, but I highly doubt they can ever make this game fun.

    Muy mal Optimizado, demasiados Bug y Glitches tanto en Mapeado al igual que en enemigos(es cierto que esto es una costumbre en los juegos de Bethesda pero en Fallout 76 es algo imperdonable que en cada rincón del mapa y en cualquier momento si o si se encuentre un error de estos)

    Una IA pésima que inclusive pasa de dispararte y se queda mirándote frente a frente.

    La Historia se cuenta mediante simples casest, dándote misiones repetitivas las cuales te piden que busques ciertas cosas, en cierta ahora y listo.

    En resumen, un gran insulto para los fans de Fallout. Y como dato extra, si, Fallout 76 tendra un modo Battle Royal

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why it's such an absolute chore to play, I went into it optimistically, I was honestly hoping for a good time. I've sunk a ridiculous amount of hours into the fallout and Elder Scrolls series and I've enjoyed them a lot despite their flaws but 76 just stands apart, it's the black sheep of the series, the really boring black sheep. The main story is pathetic. Fallout 76 is the story of an insane man chasing quest markers around a map while pointless audio logs play in the background. You do not have any goals or direction, there are no characters to get you engaged or immersed in the game, just an endless series of quest markers to follow around. Saying the story is half-assed would be an overstatement, it's closer to no assed. The world is actually quite beautiful, the environments look really great and contain many different visually distinct areas, it's just too bad there's nothing in this world worth finding. There is literally no challenge in this game at all. Almost every enemy takes one or two shots to kill, while the player seems to be built like a tank. The power armor in this game works similar to the the star powerup in Super Mario Bros, you never die... At first I thought this was just because I was in a low-level area, but I ended up running into an enemy that was nearly double my level at one point and he was basically no threat whatsoever, I just back pedaled down the road and shot him in the face a few times. This game's difficulty feels like I'm playing fallout 4 on the "game journalist" difficulty. It is mind-numbingly boring and as a result of that I quickly started using fast travel whenever I possibly could to avoid fighting endless waves of impotent enemies. Let's talk about the loot, which is basically the only reason to play the game. There's no story and the enemies suck, so the loot has to be good right? This was the moment of revelation for me, this was the point that I figured it out, fallout 76 is not a Fallout game, it's a F-ing MMO. The core gameplay is there, it's a shooting game where you collect loot and level up, but all the joy of playing a Fallout game is just absent. There are no cool characters to meet, there are no interesting areas to explore I would go as far to say there really are no quests. Every area is just go here, kill dudes, pick up loot and return. And is the loot even worth anything? No of course not, MMOs are designed to waste your time, so you'll find 500000 pipe pistols that are all worth one cap. Thank You Todd. Let's talk about the cash shop. I don't really need to say anything about this. There is a cashshop and everyone knows cashshops are cancer. The leveling completely sucks, I have no idea how they F-ed this up so bad. The leveling up in Skyrim and fallout 4 was awesome, there were so many good perks to choose from and every level made you feel tangibly stronger. But leveling up in fallout 76 is pretty bland, the game randomizes the perks you can choose from and most of them are really anemic. I honestly couldn't tell much of a difference between my character when I was level one versus when I was level 20. It felt more or less the same. And because of the randomness, there's basically no chance that you can specialise towards a specific kind of build, you're just sort of stuck with whatever they give you. I imagine that after a few hundred hours of playtime you might be able to collect all the different perks, but there is no way I'm gonna suffer through to that point. This game handicaps itself by being so pathetically easy, why would you ever bother to team up with someone who's going to take half of your loot if you can play just as effectively solo. it's completely pointless. And even if you are brain-dead enough to actually need help with a quest good luck finding another player who has the exact same quest, is a similar level and actually wants to team up with you. You are probably more likely to win the lottery, so the co-op is totally pointless. The PvP is not only also pointless but it's also fundamentally broken. The way the PvP works is that when you shoot a player it sends a duel request and does a tiny amount of damage to that player, then if that player shoots back at you it starts a duel and then you both do full damage to each other. The problem here is that the person who sends the duel request by shooting first will always lose because the way you initiate the duel is by shooting back, meaning that if someone shoots you, you can just walk straight up to them, go into your inventory, put on your power armor, pop a psycho, get out your strongest shotgun and then just vats in on their head and get a critical and you'll kill them in one hit. You win the duel there's nothing they can do to stop you from doing this because they cannot damage you until you shoot back. it's just the most broken system. Expand
