Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered on Xbox One remains as fun and nostalgic as it did in 2009. With punchy combat, creepy exploration and a hilarious script that’s beautifully voice acted, it’s hard not to recommend this Halloween treat.

This may seem like an easy cash grab scheme to re-release the same game and play on the nostalgia people have for the Ghostbusters. But they have done a lot of work to upscale the graphics to make it feel like the game belongs on the Xbox One. It is still a good fun game and it does feel like a continuation from the movies and great that you feel involved in the story. If you can ignore the few minor annoyances, then this game still holds up as a decent game for anyone and not just long-time fans.

It’s the perfect fan service addition to the Ghostbusters canon, and regardless of the all-female reboot or upcoming Ghostbusters 2020, this still stands up as that ‘third film’. The fact that it’s also a very good game frankly makes our toaster dance. [Issue#184, p.82]

For a budget priced remaster, it’s still a fun time, especially if you’re a fan of the Ghostbusters. The talent behind the game and story is decent enough even if the jokes aren’t as good as the original film. The gameplay loop can feel outdated, and the missing co-op mode stings, but the promise of it coming for free is still there. I still enjoyed my time with the game and people who have never experienced it, or haven’t seen it in a long time, will still find some enjoyment out of it, and you’re not breaking the bank while you do pick it up.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered gets some visual improvements, but not much else. Strong nostalgia hooks will delight fans, but won't bring in any new audience.

Ghostbusters was a great tie-in back in 2009 but this remaster doesn’t really make for a vastly improved experience.

Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered is kind of a disappointment. On one hand, it offers fans of the franchise what is still a half-decent game, but on the other hand it feels dated and as if little was done to bring it forward a decade. If you haven’t played this game, you may want to check this version out, because the story has its funny moments and is worth experiencing. However, if you’re someone who’s already played through the original version at least once, it’s hard to really recommend this update.

Honestly, when it comes to movie-to-video game adaptations, they don't get better than this. Great story, fun action and terrific voiceHonestly, when it comes to movie-to-video game adaptations, they don't get better than this. Great story, fun action and terrific voice acting. This game both stands alone today and takes you back to a familiar place at the same time. The minute I finished this game I wanted more; more storyline, more laughs and more catching ghosts...the Remastered version will hold me over until the new movie arrives. Expand

Ghostbusters Remastered is a 3rd Person action Adventure following the events of the Classic Ghustbusters Movies. Originally released in 2009,Ghostbusters Remastered is a 3rd Person action Adventure following the events of the Classic Ghustbusters Movies. Originally released in 2009, Dan Aykroyd accompanied by the entire original cast, brought us what was to be the Third chapter in the Ghostbusters story. Utilizing the soundtrack, and voice lines from the 2009 release, experience the whole Ghostbusters team, Including Harold Ramis! You are the Ghostbusters new recruit, and new equipment tester, and by the sound of it... not the first. With a new Gozer exhibit at the museum, the anarchy of wild spirits spikes to new heights when something sets Ivo Shandors' evil architectural works back into motion. Tying everything we Loved from the classic movies together, the story paints a phenomenal picture and adds a new dimension to the already established lore. No matter if you're playing it again since the first release on the 360 or the One, or this beautiful remaster for the first time, you get to live the Ghostbusters dream. This game delivers the closest thing to strapping on a proton pack, and slamming ghosts into traps you can experience. The removal of Multiplayer is the only complaint I can muster about the latest release, but promise of a revamped version of multiplayer keeps my hopes high. This is like living a childhood dream for fans of the Classic Movies, and the loving dedication to Harold Ramis will help keep Egon alive for all of us on our beloved Xbox One consoles. Expand

And yet, it's quite endearing. Probably because it doesn't take itself too seriously.

Although the story and characters are fantastic, this ends up feeling more like a re-release than an improved experience.
