Not only the best action/adventure game ever to grace the Playstation 2, but also one of the most amazing gaming experiences of the entire generation, and one that should not be missed by anyone who can handle the extreme violence and sexual content.
God of War II has its weaknesses, but its strengths are unparalleled. This is yet another bloody, tasty, tough piece of code made flesh from Sony, and we can’t wait for another helping. Don’t listen to Nietzsche, this God is alive and kicking ass.
Its biggest problem is its length, and that its formula can’t quite endure its sequel-dose duration. Whether or not it’s overlong in terms of play hours may be a matter of preference, but it feels slightly stretched during its final third, exposing its shallowness a little in the process. God of War 2 is a game that I can't help but love. It's so over-the-top and ridiculous, but it's also so much fun. Kratos is a total badass, and he's always getting into crazy situations. The gameplay is satisfying, and the story is surprisingly engaging.
Does not hold up well! Having played the original and not liking it and then decades later playing the PS4 God of War (technically the fourth entry) and realizing it is absolutely amazing I thought I would see what I was missing in the gap between. Turns out-"Frustration" is the answer!
Every time the camera pans through a new puzzle room I cringed, each enemy encounter includes about 10-15 more enemies than you'll enjoy fighting, and the story seems more interested in how violent they can make Kratos without anyone realizing that he just smashed an old man's face in to a table.
The puzzles weren't difficult in design, but with no camera control and some puzzles requiring solving while you are getting hit by enemies-it becomes a real slog. There's also a really poorly implemented mechanic where you are turned to stone by Gorgon's. If, by chance, this happens in the air mid jump you shatter instantly. Really a frustrating way to have to repeat a section.
This game is a product of a time where games were meant to be frustrating with very little story. We'll see if I can still stick with the series!
First off God of War 2 is way too short. the game takes about 8 hours to beat and is fun for the first 30 minutes. The game centers around Kratos the new god of war and his revenge plan to kill Zeus because he got tricked. Kratos is a moron because the gods are his family so he ends up killing his whole family again. The combat and moves are flashy and repetitive, the magic in this game is almost useless, the "puzzles" are really easy, and the boss battles take no time what so ever. this game takes thing from other games like Rygar and Devil May Cry like the rage of the titans and the orbs. the only reason this game is as popular as it is, is because of the blood, gore, and flashy moves. i didnt know pressing a button at the right time made you a badas*
