A fun beast slaying experience that new and existing fans of The Witcher will enjoy, even if loading times are a little slow

When Pokémon GO meets the strong storytelling of The Witcher, a very entertaining role-playing-AR-smartphone-game comes out in which you cover a few (kilo-) meters.

Being focused on single player, The Witcher Monster Slayer is an interesting AR experiment and you should certainly give it a try.

It's certainly cool fighting monsters from The Witcher and watching a story unfold through some lovely comic-style art. Unfortunately, the game requires too much of a time commitment and is pretty much pay to win.

There are some issues with The Witcher: Monster Slayer that will likely hold it back from being a huge success, but there's still a good game in here. Little touches like dialogue options in the quests, or the ability to unlock weapons and outfits that we've seen in other Witcher games are delightful inclusions. It's also less than 2GB according to my phone, so it won't eat much storage space. Sadly, the overall experience is marred by a gesturing towards microtransactions and a tendency for quests to lead you down real-life dead ends.

It's a pretty good game with lots of content to it, but its very similar to Pokemon go. But otherwise it is pretty good.

The lore is well researched, the battles are fun, carried, and strategic, and there’s a clear story to this mobile game. The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a free to play, very well polished game, so expect the temptation to spend hard earned cash to get a leg up in the world, and by all means, if you are able and willing, then the prices are comparable to games with far less polish and charm. Maybe I’m a sucker for the Witcher universe (not maybe… I am), but the game is fun and my wife and I walked a good two miles without even noticing this evening just having fun, and if you like the ‘just one more monster’ mentality in your game then this is a great game that will get you walking around your neighborhood. Heck, we even drove to other neighborhoods to play. Happy hunting, Witcher! Expand

Mechanics seem to be similar to 'Pokemon Go.' Graphics are also pretty good. Gameplay is intuitive and challenging, in so far as you must move around in order to collect resources, complete missions and daily quests. As far as enemy interaction, you fight monsters by swiping at it with your sword, throwing bombs with a button tap or us signs by making shapes onscreen. The game gives you hints to monster weaknesses based on the gameplay mechanics before each encounter, which is really helpful. Collecting money is a grind. Microtransactions exist, and include money and an item kit, so there is a degree of pay-to-win. Performance-wise, the game is wanting. It crashes frequently just by trying to look as player menus. Have also had bad luck with AR, which is really a shame because the 'monster tracking' feature looks really cool. Despite the bugs, you can't beat the price (free). A good addition to any 'Witcher' fan's collection. Expand
