I was really surprised by the quality of the 3D models, which were FAR better than what was initially teased couple years ago.
I never got interested in Pokemon Go and I can't understand how people (especially those not grown with the franchise) are suddenly into it, while it completely broke all the past rules of how these fights are supposed to take place. There's not even special attacks or moves...
This game however is pretty accurate depiction of what Witcher 3 was on PC, I'd say close to 95% accurate on how the game operates, but in 1st person perspective. There's talents and items to equip and prepare for combat and the monster book has like 300 different enemies.
I can't imagine what this game will turn out to be in couple of years.
To obtain decent equipment, you either need to grind till you drop unconscious or take a shortcut and buy it with real money. I’m not a fan of such paywalls, but the quests are very well-written and therefore engaging, and after some time I started to enjoy my life as a witcher, especially that I found Monster Slayer’s combat extremely satisfying. The Witcher: Monster Slayer is a slow grind that feels like it's still in beta. It's not refined enough to take the augmented reality crown from Pokémon Go, but with a lot of polish, we could one day have a new AR game for those who want something a little more grown-up than Pokémon.
It's certainly cool fighting monsters from The Witcher and watching a story unfold through some lovely comic-style art. Unfortunately, the game requires too much of a time commitment and is pretty much pay to win.
Silver sword locked behind a paywall is the first thing you will notice here. Sure, you can try to grind for it, but it will take around a month, while you will be suffering the low damage you deal and die from common monsters. I was playing it during soft launch, which was 10 month ago and the balance only got worse. Earlier you could cancel enemy attack with well timed crit or sign, which gave you some way to strategize in each encounter and beat hard enemy with your skill. Now it’s completely removed and you can only perfect-parry or face-tank. It’s really hard to do on the go and face tanking will kill you in 3 hits. Yes, they want to make you to use consumables, but even with those your chances are slim. Most of the times you feel that you are wasting resources than getting an advantage in battle. There’s even no incentive to beat harder monsters, since they grant the same number of XP. But they require way more resources to beat than you can possibly have in return. Now talking about the quests and narrative - my first quest bugged out completely: it spawned on the private property (which it shouldn’t) and after I pressed relocate it disappeared completely. Contacted support, but no response yet. Character progression also doesn’t feel right - my lvl 17 character isn’t much stronger than my lvl 5 character.
