    Morteshka’s deal with the devil has paid off, as Black Book delivers a captivating story and engaging gameplay full of strategy and variety that should keep you busy for over 40 hours. Being in league with Satan usually comes with a great price, but players should be able to overcome any curses handed down to them. With strong character development and narrative, this wicked book is a page-turner that’s worth a read.

    Morteshka’s second outing was a home-run. Black Book is a superbly written title, lifting the lids of a host of Slavic myths that were likely unknown to many of us previously. Gameplay can be easy at times, but the rest will keep you locked in.

    This game is low budget, sure, but that doesn’t hold it back in the slightest. It’s a very good card game, especially attractive for Eastern European players due to the captivating way in which it deals with Slavic mythology.

    It's hard to rate something like Black Book. It's a mix and match of things that are generally fun and refreshingly new, but the whole thing carries with it a lack of polish and balance, which could make this dark tale of witchcraft and demonology shine much brighter. This is basically a high 6, or a low 7. A mediocre, repetitive CCG/RPG, with some neat moments that'll - barely - manage to keep you interested. If looking to experience something outside of generic medieval fantasy, though, do give it a try. Morteshka's creation is basically Slavic Pagan Mythology: The Game.

    This is definitely not my favourite tipe of games, but this is perfect. Story, setting, gameplay- everything 10/10.

A very beautiful Russian-Orthodox-pagan setting, the music is very good and there are a lot of pleasant gameplay features for the interaction with which the game encourages sooner or later. Very good voice acting of the characters is just 100 percent immersion in the history and world of Cherdyn county. Well, a very good card battle system, although there is no imbalance in the later stages of the game, but still. Well, in the end, we can mention that pumping skills is pleasant (although it is linear from part). Game super 8.7 house cats out of 10… Expand

    Visual (7/10): great arts, music, deep atmosphere feeling, great card design, buut 3D is ugly. it's an indie game, so just be prepared to see square faces.

    Gameplay (9/10): game play is really interesting, because you change you cards in deck after each chapter of adventure, and play a different play style. Very entertaining "magic durak" game to relax after main adventures and card puzzles to get some new items.
    In game you have some balancing buf(items and herbs) and debuff(own demons and humanity) mechanics.

    Story (9/10): All game I was really exited maybe not for the story but for the lore and how authors connected everything so logical in one story. Characters are also great, especially Proshka(black cat).

    All in all, you have to play this game because it so unique, to miss such opportunity to try something fresh and new in industry.    … Expand

The story is good and the game contains lots of real Russian folklore. There are several original and interesting game mechanics such as "demon managing" (you must choose if you will send your demons to harass other people or suffer their debuffs or find ways to mitigate their penalties) and puzzle combat. There is lots of room for roleplaying choices to become a good or bad witch. And there are many options for build/deck customization. The only cons of the game are minimalistic graphics (this didnt stop Slay The Spire from being a great game) and that the difficulty is rather easy even on the "extreme" setting. I would also love if the "sin" system had more interactions with the game play than simply affecting some dialogue and the endings. Maybe some item or card interactions would be great. Or maybe i havent gotten that far.… Expand
