Set in Louisiana in 1895, the game boasts a mixture of PvP and PvE elements that creates a uniquely tense experience. It’s not just the creatures who are a threat—it’s every Hunter on the map. In the classic game mode, a match of Hunt pits ten players—playing solo or in teams of two—against each other as they race to take out gruesome beasts for a bounty they must collect and get off of the map, while Hunt’s quickplay mode offers a shorter match for solo players to scavenge for weapons as they compete for a diminishing pool of bounty. The higher the risk, the higher the reward–but a single mistake could cost everything. Expand

The learning curve is a bastard and, while the matchmaking is generally pretty good in terms of finding you opponents, you’re going to die again and again, in awful and hideous ways. It’s grim and beautiful, with no single-player mode outside of the tutorial. And if that sounds awesome – and honestly it is – then you know what to do.

Despite the courageous setting choices and high standards, Hunt: Showdown is an exceptional shooter that occupies its own small niche in times of dwindling Battle Royale hype with innovative ideas and perfection of balanced gameplay.

A great competitive shooter if you are willing to invest time and can accept the slow character progress.

Hunt: Showdown is an atypical competitive shooter. A different way to see the online FPS videogames, with great settings and PvP-PvE features.

Hunt: Showdown doesn’t try to do a lot of things beyond its core mission, and the challenging gameplay and limited selection of maps — though they are expansive and interesting — might be a barrier to long-term enjoyment. Assuming the developers keep infusing the game with content, Hunt: Showdown is a fresh take on the genre that has already become a bit stale.

Hunt: Showdown is a little bit DayZ, a little bit PUBG and a little bit Resident Evil. This initial release is strong, with plenty of room to expand. Eventually, new maps, weapons and enemy types will be needed to maintain interest. Hunt: Showdown may not technically be a battle royale game, but it shares enough of the genre’s DNA that I wouldn’t be surprised to see a battle pass in the near future.

There's a lot that works in Hunt: Showdown, from its setting and creatures design to its strong blend of PvE and PvP action. Like the bayou, the game first appears sort of quaint, unique, and interesting to explore. But below the surface, once you get into the thick weeds of it, you end up feeling like there's plenty of places you'd wish to have traveled.

If you like the tactical combat of PUBG but were yearning for something with more soul and better graphics - this is your game.

The environments and graphics are phenomenal. The level is the best looking and most immersive I have played in any multiplayer video game.

Progression system is interesting, rewarding skilled players. The weapons are all useful and interesting, with nothing trashy. It would be nice if you could pickup items from dead players though.

There have been some small technical issues, one 'freeze' of the game requiring sign out of windows, and FPS is about 45 with my 1070. Given the slower pace of combat, this is not really a problem, and a fair tradeoff given how beautiful the environments are. Given the bargain price of $30 during Early Access, I'm willing to accept some roughness.

    Highly recommended.

I love this game more than any other game I have ever played and have so far ploughed about seven hundred hours into it.

The PvE action still destroys me on occasion and can be especially awful when in the middle of a PvP moment. There has been many times I bested other players, had very low health, and got bitten by a dog or clattered over the head by an AI zombie before I had a chance to heal up and savour my victory.

The only reason I’m not giving it a solid 10 is because there is a wee bit of menu/equipment functionality that could be improved upon. Like, in Fortnite you can move items in inventory around into specific slots and give bullets to team mates, but this isn’t possible in Hunt yet. It’s a small detail and probably doesn’t warrant deducting a whole point but I can’t score it a 10 because of it and there is no 9.9 option. WARNING: it may not be a good game to play if you have a heart condition. It’s intense

Let's start with what this game does good:
The game packs a huge boost of adrenaline and anxiety into your body, the sound design, the atmosphere is all built in order to create a very horror-like situation.
The weapons and characters look very nice and same goes with the skins, the enemies are various and each of them require a particular strategy to get around them.
So..great graphics, great sound, great shooting what could be wrong in such a title.
Well, first off the matchmaking isn't exactly fair and square, you'll be often teamed against very strong players that will surely destroy you in a blink, secondly you could be teamed against cheaters and those are not very common but also not very rare.
Another huge problem is connectivity and hit scans, you will sometimes die because of lag or server crash and sometimes your shot won't even land and hit properly.
Not to mention the lack of new content as in new maps and new bosses.
I like the game but i wouldn't really recommend it to anyone, however this game definetly needs some more players to actually fix the matchmaking issues.

To me this would be a 5/10 but since the developpers seems to actually care about some of its problems i assign it a 6/10.

The game, despite the fact that it is addictive and exciting, can spoil all these emotions in an instant due to an unexpected error of the game engine. The biggest problem is disconnecting from the server. It happens randomly but very often. Disconnecting from a session during an exciting game and the inability to reconnect causes anger, regret, embarrassment, pissing off and a whole range of negative emotions. We are in the twenty-first century and this game does not have a reconnection system. Matches are long and such a disconnection may occur after 50 minutes of the game when we run away with the bounty. this is terribly irritating. I waited a long time to write this review, hoping for some improvement from the developers of the game. I was hoping that they might eventually fix this error. Players have been reporting this problem for a long time. Lately, I have the feeling that it has gotten worse because I have unwanted disconnects practically every day. The result is that I lose more hunters through this disconnection with the server than by dying by the hand of another player. I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND AND ADVISE EVERYONE. DO NOT BE FALLED BY PROMOTIONS. Expand

I've been playing FPS games for a quarter of a century, and the gunplay is just crap. This is aggravated by the fact that there's no practice mode, permadeath is enforced, and you will be paired against max-level players regardless of your skill.

Oh, and want to solo? You'll be put in a match against teams.
