LawBreakers is an interesting mix of Tribes: Ascend and Overwatch. If you are tired of Blizzard's online shooter, you definitely need to try it.

Lawbreakers is a fresh new FPS with some room for improvement, but so far it’s a neat experience. For the price of 30,- euro’s you’ll have hours and hours of fun.

No matter what comes next, Lawbreakers is a success. It's proof, among other things, that veteran design talent really does mean something - and that the shooters of the late '90s still have something to teach the modern game industry. This is more than nostalgia: it's a paean to the genre's potential, performed by people who know it well. [Issue#311, p.104]

In its best game modes, LawBreakers manages to make simply moving around feel amazing. Learning how to fall with style in the most deadly way possible is a thrilling challenge. Getting stuck playing a weak mode and map thanks to the grab-bag matchmaking can be frustrating, but it doesn’t ruin an otherwise fast and tense shooter that lets you gleefully propel yourself through low-gravity with rocket boots and miniguns.

Despite some superficial similarities to other recent multiplayer focused games, LawBreakers is ultimately its own beast with challenging, deep gameplay that succeeds thanks to the unique movement system, low-gravity combat and fun, varied classes.

While LawBreakers isn’t the most popular game on Steam right now, it’s not something you should ignore. For FPS fans clamouring for something new and innovative, you have finally got what you’ve been asking for. If you are looking for a game with a high skill-ceiling that tries to bring new ideas to the table, definitely consider picking up LawBreakers.

LawBreakers is far from being a bad multiplayer FPS. It's a fun game with some good ideas, that can entertain you a lot. But there's nothing in it that feels really surprising or more appealing to players that already have plenty of choices in the genre.

It isSo if you played the beta you kind of know what you are getting into the game is a twitch shooter based around team work and mobility. It is a character based shooter so different characters have different play styles. For the release which just happened about five hours ago they have added a new hero. Nerfed and boosted some heroes to get a more equal playing field and added two new maps and a new game type. I have logged about 20 hours in the beta and have had a blast. Even when your team is down a bunch you can fight your way back to victory with a few lucky breaks. The gun play feels nice and weighty and the zero gravity areas on the maps adds for some interesting attacking a shooting dynamics. I think this game will end up being a great game and grow in content with each season like LOL or Rainbow Six Siege does. It is a great game and you are supporting a small studio. Expand

My honest score is a 8.5 or 9.0/10 but I have to counter the nonsensical 0/10 scores.

I love the core gameplay mechanics AND the servers are of the best I've ever played on. When the game mechanics are VERY fast, and you don't ever feel cheated by hit-boxes, it's a glorious thing.

I never wait for matchmaking more than one minute. Ranked is not out yet so there are some imbalances, players leaving early, etc. I remember Overwatch had the same issues in the first month.

If you've ever enjoyed games like Quake, you need to own this game, as it brings the same level of polish as Overwatch did to the genre as a class based shooter. Being compared to Overwatch is NOT a bad thing, as both run buttery smooth. The gameplay of LB fixes some issues I have with OW - namely overpowered ultimate abilities in OW.

Half a point off for a dumb name.

It has similarities to great aspects of recent games that I played and loved:
Overwatch’s fidelity, charisma and set loadouts
    Titanfall 2’s fast paced movement
Rocket League’s intense back and forth game dynamic

Lawbreakers has all this and the arena feel I was craving in modern shooters for years.

I liked playing all characters from the get go. Normally I have to warm up more to characters which don’t fit my playstyle as much. Here everything feels FPSy and fresh.

On the technical side I had a good experience. Fast matchmaking time. Enjyoable UI. Fluid mechanics.

It’s not a huge game content wise. It seems Boss Key takes the route afformentioned games took with their payment model.
From experience I can tell, that if they generate the revenue, more content should be released regularly for some time.

Lawbreakers really pushed my right buttons, I’d like to see into what it can grow. Join in if you like first person shooters. I already feel home.

I've been a big fan of competitive games all my life, specially action games and more specially FPS games like Quake III or Unreal Tournament.I've been a big fan of competitive games all my life, specially action games and more specially FPS games like Quake III or Unreal Tournament. From that big moments starting in 1999, the only big skill-based competitor for this games were Halo 2 and Halo 3 (and UT sequels of course), but Halo started spoiling and other proposals just hadn't the sauce, focused in other bearings or just tried to replicate Quake III and Unreal Tournament III. Call of Duty, Battlefield, Destiny, Nexuiz, Section 8, Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Toxikk, Reflex... You may have played any kind of multiplayer shooter but never got something that good from 2007 (Halo 3's year).

Today, and almost 10 years later, we finally have a worthy successor. LawBreakers has adopted the popular (and necessary to attract the masses) hero based distribution of weapons and habilities successfully, bringing back weapons from Unreal Tournament, with simmetric maps, innovative thread turn to objective based modes, with a new special sauce: Different sprints for each hero that just bring a new dimension of organization and fun. All decorated with the top-tier Unreal Engine 4 and running with a netcode that works awesomely good, something I really appreciate after thousands of hours playing CSGO and other competitive based games which connection is incohompresibly bad for the running times.

Please, just don't listen to those who says that this is an "overwatch-like"... That's hilarious because then they're practically saying that Team Fortress 2 is an "unreal tournament-like", if you know what I mean...

Obviously the game has defects, heroes balance is really good but need little improvements, which is perfectly normal given that a several amount of content (including modes, maps and heroes) have been being included from a few months ago, when we were playing the alpha, even a hero that just wasn't in the last week (before launch) open beta. The other problem are little performance issues that, as balancing, will be solved in upcoming patchs for sure.

Despite this game releasing at the wrong time and Cliff B abandoning it, it's now a free 2 play title.

What are my thoughts now after free 2 play? Well, now that I can actually play it and not seeing other people play it. Cliff B should have put LawBreakers around a $10 price tag because $30 was asking for too much for a game that was competing with Overwatch in its prime.

Note that, Boss Key Productions was shutdown by Cliff B. The servers for Lawbreakers will probably only be active for a few months (or until the year ends, who knows) and you will probably see 0 updates/support/DLC. So play until the servers go down or until Cliff B says something else on Twitter. Maybe the community can bring this game back now with it being free 2 play and Cliff B can see that via the Steam Charts.

Is it good? Yes, but good different. It's a nice change of pace from the trash Call of Duty series.

    Update:

Game is shutting down in September.
