Skautfold: Usurper is a Metroidvania game that offers a guard system that is fun and help you handle the battles and also brings you a new layer of gameplay, it feels like another evolution on the gender, the RPG system is a success.
Skautfold: Usurper is a tough Metroidvania and Souls-like hybrid. Consequently, it is cruel, unfair, and will drive you insane. However, if you can put up with its challenging ways, you'll discover a rewarding experience that will break your balls.
Skautfold: Usurper is a game that will do a lot to endear itself to your gaming heart. It looks great, it plays very well and the challenge is all too real, but the rewards are there if you can learn how to risk it all on the Guard bar.
The pixel art is done quite well, as is the smooth animations and overall aesthetic. While a few doorways can blend together with the background and make it difficult to discern, the Lovecraftian Castlevania setting is done quite well, complete with fitting and moody soundtrack. If you’ve been itching for a new Metroidvania and want to try some unique combat mechanics, Skautfold: Usurper is a perfectly serviceable recommendation under $20.
