Playdead's INSIDE is masterful in what it sets out to achieve. It might not be Breath of the Wild in terms of its scope, or Super Mario Odyssey in terms of its level variety, but it provides a visceral and beautiful three hour long experience that is difficult to forget.

Two years after its first release, Inside is still one of the best games ever made on this generation. Dark and oppressive, it’s full of well crafted puzzles that always show more diversity.

Inside is a grimly beautiful platform-puzzler that, while brief, is packed full of jaw-dropping highlights. While its dark tone won't be for everyone, it's all been executed brilliantly, with gently taxing physics-based conundrums woven into a haunting wordless narrative.

With a rich atmosphere, solid puzzles, good platforming, and a story that unravels in your mind as you play Inside is one of indie gaming's best titles. It's short and sweet, and it should be experienced by everyone who loves atmospheric and dystopian narratives.

A deeply thought-provoking experience with a mystery that begs to be explored and is faithfully ported to the Switch.

The Switch port of INSIDE is very solid and runs excellently, looking comparable to all existing versions. This is one of the better adventure style platformers that emphasises the visuals to get its point across. It always feels like Playdead could have done a bit more with the gameplay by making it longer and having more complexity to some of the puzzles. Most people will feel completely bewildered when it is all over.

INSIDE is both highly minimalist in its design, and meticulously detailed in its presentation. The sound design, background art, cameraINSIDE is both highly minimalist in its design, and meticulously detailed in its presentation. The sound design, background art, camera movement, and animations are all highlights. After playing through 4 times I am still finding new details, and I still have questions about the intriguing and haunting story told without any dialogue. The puzzles are engaging, but not as difficult as those in LIMBO. I found myself hardly caring about the game play as I was completely sucked into the world. It really does feel like an interactive piece of art.

There are some great videos on YouTube from GDC presentations that go into the sound and world design of the game (search 'inside gdc'). After you finish the game they are definitely worth checking out if you have any interest in the technical aspects of the design :)

It's not a particularly challenging game, but it is very engaging, absolutely beautifully designed, and it just keeps building up and up and up until a masterful crescendo - where the visual style, the storytelling and the sounds/music all just fit so well together. it's an absolute marvel. The plot, the characters, the setting, the mood ... I haven't ever played anything quite like it. One of the best and truly original emotionally gripping video games I've ever played. A pure gem. Fortunately, to my surprise, Inside was so much more than just a puzzle-solving game. It's a beautifully crafted adventure that is simple, yet impactful in its design. The game is riddled with challenges that were never too difficult for me to figure out after a few minutes of thinking. (minus me looking at a guide for a couple lol) The satisfaction that comes with solving these puzzles, paired with the satisfaction of seeing things you do impact the world around you, ultimately kept me attached to the game more than I expected. The art direction was one of the things that drew me to play the game in the first place. The monotone colors and dark settings complement the unsettling vibe the game has, while also making triumphant moments feel all the more thrilling. Overall, I'm not going to try and dive into the meaning or underlying messages of the story. I'm just not good at that, and wouldn't do it justice. Regardless however, Inside was a great game, and I have no doubt that anyone, regardless of what kinda games they play, could pick up this game and enjoy it as much as I did. Expand

Mileage vary but I'd say it would take 3 - 4 hours for first timers to complete the game so it is on the short side. The difficulty rises gradually in the beginning but ramps up exponentially in the latter parts of the game with some fiendishly tricky puzzles.

It's moody, it's different, it's disturbingly serene. i couldn't put the game down once I got started - but the difficulties of the later stages kinda "forced" me to take a break especially when the developers string together many hard puzzles in sequence. Which is a good thing - otherwise most gamers would just breeze through and not breathe in the atmosphere and design of the game. Personally I do not believe there is much replay value given that it is a puzzle based game and the enjoyment is in cracking the conundrums. Once that is spent the thrill is gone, for me at least. I will replay once again but hard to imagine I would go on to a third play. With that in mind I still maintain that the game is worth your time.
