A fantastic Metroidvania. The graphics and animation are great and the music is nice and relaxing, provided the occasional difficulty spike isn't stressing you out. There are performance stutters on the Switch version, and a couple of trial-and-error areas that can get annoying, but overall they didn't really sway my overall opinion on the game. If you're a fan of Metroidvania-style games, definitely give Unbound: Worlds Apart a shot.

Performance woes aside, Unbound: Worlds Apart is easy to recommend to any fans of the Metroidvania genre. With its outstanding presentation, clever mix of puzzles and platforming, and a truly unique hook, it’s a game that will keep you glued to your controller from start to finish. So if you’re looking for an enthralling adventure into a vibrant fantasy world, look no further. Unbound: Worlds Apart is a window into a strange and fascinating realm that you’ll want to explore.

Unbound: Worlds Apart is a unique puzzle platformer. The variety of portals it uses is ingenious, and the hand-drawn art is beautiful. However, its frame rate stutters, and some sections are particularly grueling.

Unbound: Worlds Apart isn’t a bad game by any means, but after a few hours of play it simply begins to feel bland and a little repetitive. Your portal powers seem interesting at the outset, but chances are you’ll eventually get tired of using the same combination of them to overcome platforming challenges and to make your way past creepy arachnids and other oversized bugs unscathed. If you’re in the market for a challenging puzzle platformer there are worse out there, but you’re probably not going to remember your time with Unbound: Worlds Apart once you’re done with it.

Such crisp controls, platforming and puzzles. It can get challenging at times but the checkpoints are so forgiving and encouraging. Unbound Worlds Apart is an amazing Metroidvania platformer with beautiful art, great music and an extremally fun portal mechanic that alter the way you go about puzzles from one area to another.

If you're a fan of Ori or Hallow Knight, you can't miss this. Taking inspiration from both you are tasked with challenging some excellent puzzles and precision platforming, with a cute engaging story and an even cuter protagonist (Soli). However do be careful of the precision platforming, I nearly broke my switch in two out of frustration.

At times the game gets a little atmospheric which only serves to aid in your immersion and enjoyment.

Great title in its own right that pays homage to its inspiration sources. 10/10 would be a cube again.

With that in mind, doing things a little differently would likely be a good idea, and that’s where Unbound makes a case for its potential success, by leaning a bit in the opposite direction most titles choose. While exploration and rewards for persistence are building blocks all titles in the space should have, and that are represented well here, rather than placing an emphasis on combat as most games do within the space, Unbound leans into the puzzles instead. Through the creative use of portals and a variety of powers you’ll wield as the game moves on you’ll be able to navigate through some tough challenges that vary in style and difficulty, making for an experience that never is quite able to get dull and that will put you to the test in some cases to work through how to properly make your way through some intricate maze-like level design. While perhaps not as ideal for the action-oriented set I found the more cerebral approach in this case to be satisfyingly refreshing compared to the norm.
