For the King is undoubtedly one of the most distinct, intriguing, and fun RPG roguelikes in recent memory, and what’s more, the content value is through the roof. Despite the odd technical hiccup, the game succeeds in blending so many mechanics together without making a mess, and yet respectably manages to remain accessible and exciting throughout. If you’ve even a smidgen of interest in this game, you owe it to yourself to pick this up.

For the King is a turn-based role-playing game, in which each game will be different thanks to its procedural style. A game that will make you want to continue playing one turn after another. Ideal to start in this style of games and very complete for lovers of it. Guarantees many hours of fun.

For The King is quite frankly one of the best games you can get for the price range. With five different game modes, all of which include their own enjoyable gimmicks such as survival elements and a focus on seafaring, there is more than enough content to find yourself going through. Supported by fantastic depth in the combat and systems that tie the game together, what few setbacks it has can easily be overlooked. If you have been looking for a turn based RPG, it would be an absolute shame to skip out on For The King.

I’m grateful that singleplayer exists since it’s hard enough to get two friends together, let alone getting two to commit to a long campaign. However, For the King is a game best enjoyed with others. I finished it solo, but the lack of other players made the experience less enriching. With this in mind, For the King is a jolly questing experience, both as a local and online boardgame experience.

A board game that plays like Civilization Revolutions had a baby with D&D. Every board is randomly generated and you may lose the game many times before you get to the end. You then must restart from the beginning but during your playthroughs you acquire Lore points which let you unlock new features, items, or hero classes for your subsequent playthroughs. This adds a sense of evolution and variety to every new game as you continue to grow in knowledge and skill. There are multiple scenarios outside the main board which unlock new Lore items in the main game. It could have a little more polish but when you realize this was made by around 4 people that is totally excusable. The game can be punishing if you make enough mistakes or try sit and grind for too long, you have to always be on the move with a plan. It may seem like it's unfair the first few times you lose but there is a better solution to every lethal problem and choice. I recommend to anybody interested in boardgames, roguelikes, adventures, RPG's or are just bored of playing real-time games that require more reaction than thought. Expand

It would be a perfect 10 IF the glitchy nature were to be fixed. The game often freezes, the controls force player 1 to make other players decisions, and some time just pressing B requires a full game shutdown. That being SAID... the fundamentals of this game are incredible. It’s a nerdy boardgame that requires no setup. It’s challenging and perfect for a 2-3 couch co-op. I can’t wait until the game is fixed, it’s a treasure. Expand

I'm not a huge fan of the board games because I often find myself losing interest in them when I have no one to challenge me, enough variation, or simply too complicated to keep the fun factor in check. For the King however is different because it never became too complex to enjoy and is a lot of fun thanks to local and online play. For The King shines its brightest in the game’s turn-based combat system because each is important and each battle provided a test in defeating enemies made for quite a satisfying experience. Is I unlocked a number of in game achievements as well along the way, and because of For the King's content is a vast amount to play, and it also has variety within the content as well. For the King is one of the best in its genre and a most enjoyable experience. It’s a game that features enjoyable play from beginning to end and with the different stories for you to experience you won’t find yourself getting bored of this game anytime soon. Nice work indeed IronOak and Curve Digital. This game is also available currently to play for free for those with the Xbox One Gamepass program so be sure to check it out. Expand
