1989 is a perfect and almost flawless representation of pop music. The record is a successful project that shows Taylor’s versatility in various music genres and her capability of merging commercial performance and music quality. Swift’s lyrics and her team’s production are never disappointing. 1989 is definitely one of the best pop records of the 2010s.

Coming into this album, I didn't have much expectations. I'm a newly turned Swiftie, so I used to think that this album would be one of her worst. I could not of been any more wrong.

1989, Taylor's fifth album, is nothing less than a pop masterpiece. I'm not lying when I say that this album is the best pop album, ever. Even 7 years later, I still think think so. It has back to back hits and every single song was a 10/10. The production, the astounding lyrics, everything about it is perfect. I have nothing bad to say. The Deluxe version is worth a listen, the three extra tracks are some of the best tracks. Excited for Taylors Version, which will hopefully be soon.

NO GOOD VOCALS. She is apparently “the music industry” but the music industry needs vocals and good lyrics meanwhile this entire album was generic, basic, lazy, and boring. Notice how she rarely collabs? she’s a horrible artist on songs. She can’t sing, can’t dance, can’t perform, and is the most basic artist I’ve seen. TRASH.

Iconic. 1989 is one of the best Pop albums ever. Each song has a unique synth like background to it, and the songs are all so good. Apart from Bad Blood, there are no bad songs. Every other song is 10/10. Its home to some of the most iconic songs of the century: "Blank Space", "Shake It Off" etc... ART.

Has some of her best vocal takes, good production, sonically cohesive and hard-hitting for most of the listening journey. Unfortunately, certain songs like 'Bad Blood', 'Welcome To New York' and 'Shake It Off' bring it 1 point down in my rating.

Honest review but 1989 is one of my least favorite albums from Taylor. I love the era that came with it but I have never felt extremely strong for any of the songs (except I Know Places and Clean). I am SO excited for the rerecording of 1989 and the vault tracks. I am very proud of Taylor and how far she has come since she released Debut.

Favorites: Style, Out Of The Woods, I Wish You

This album has it all, the lyrics, the production, which is amazing, and each, or at least most of the songs are catchy, pretty much everything a pop album needs to be a great album. There are two songs that I feel shouldn't have been included on the album, not because they're bad songs, but because they don't really fit in with the rest of the tracks. Regardless of that, and as I said before, this album is great, hands down. Expand

"Blank Space" contains very sharp song-writing and cool beat. It is followed by "Style" - I guess, Taylor's the best song of all time! Backed-up by goovy guitar, the track is really a huge love experience. We can listen here to one of the best vocals she ever recorded. "Out of the Woods" is another trip to a magical journey, with its infectious production details and howling in the back of the chorus and at the beggining of the song. It would be nice to hear this song on concert. "All You Had to Do Was to Stay" sounds very sweet, but I don't like "Stay" notes throughout the song's chorus - it'll take me some time to get into those. Plus the chorus blends with the rest of the song - from one hand it's ok because it sounds good, but it could've been bigger.
"Shake it Off" is quirky. It tried to be funny and happy, but turned out quite lame and proved Taylor's insecurities at the time of recording. It's an okay track still, but nothing great. "I Wish You Would" starts out kinda funky, but it turns out more glitchy later. I don't get this song's structure to be honest - it goes to quick, and in a really weird direction. It will take me some time to get into that. It's weird to hear "Blank Space" without Kendrick on it. The first verse by Taylor sounds cool. The track's production is a little different - it has some sparkly effect behind pre-chorus, while the first phase of chorus feels empty, like the most of the beat is missing until it starts second phase which is really cool. I don't get how Taylor managed to sound so magic in its verses, but so **** on its pre-choruses. Another trip is to Taylor's "Wildest Dreams". Cute vocals, backed-up by Taylor's heartbeat - cool detail. Its chorus is very magical, while the bridge is quite intense and very enjoyable.
"How You Get the Girl" is some kind of fusion of guitar-driven country and synth-pop ah's in the back with an explosive chorus. Cool stuff. The record seems to go more subdued from that point. "This Love" is another track backed-up by guitar, while Taylor's vocals are more indie - they are not so pop as in previous songs. Later the track receives some sparkling and percussion in the background, while its chorus is very hypnotic. How the song progresses after the second chorus is very beautiful. "I Know Places" goes against the subdued, more country-ish/indie-ish, sound of previous two tracks - having electropop verses and bombastic chorus. The bridge however, could've been a little better. Standard edition's closer, "Clean", starts out a little clunky, like someone was playing on jars with spoons? I like those aah's in verse - they are very beautiful. However, I find this song a little too long - at least for now.
"Wonderland" features quite darker piano line, while vocals are lighter. The track later picks up in the pre-chorus, while the chorus is a way down for a drop. It seems like a relic of its time, because I wished for something different here - but the song is still okay. Another subdued country-synthpop fusion is second bonus track "You Are in Love". I guess this was the most boring song in the album. "New Romantics" contains Taylor's different vocals - more confident and shifted. First, it sounds like some champion song, while its chorus is very bombastic. And the flow here is cool too!
1989 seems like a record that aimed for perfection - flawless production, greatly delivered vocals and magical athmosphere spread out through the whole record. I really enjoyed it, from the first note. Taylor knows how to get attention of a listener. Shame that some letdowns like "Shake it Off" and "Bad Blood" are tied to this album, because then it would even be 10 out of 10.

In 1989 we can see that girl of a small town growing up and turning into a new york’s woman. The different emotions telling in this album is just reforce the delusions of Swift in love, and also saying that wherever she is she will make a song and you’ll love it. Taylor explore the dance field a little in this record, making a lot more fun for a pop album.

POP PERFECTION. there hasn't been a pop Album as complete and ICONIC like 1989 was since 2014, Taylor Swift was everywhere, you couldn't scape her and she was at the Top of everything and all was well deserved because her jump to pop was perfectly done. I still listen to this album religiously, not a single skip, even with the deluxe tracks

A lot of people judged Taylor for switching to pop, and I don't get it. Unlike other artists out there, she still writes her songs, she still produces them, and the songs still have a meaning behind them. The songs on 1989 lyrically and musically are flawless. Since other pop songs go like "dance dance dance dance dance dance", this is much better.

This album is an example of cohesion. While other works from Taylor Swift had longer lengths and track listings, this one is very accurate. In comparison with Red and Speak Now, which have longer durations, this one has no fillers (avoiding All You Had to Do Was Stay), the production sounds still so good after 6 years, she nailed it.

I loved this album, but at the same time it was quite underwhelming. The thing is I fell in love with each one of the singles when they came out, and those feelings have just gotten stronger over the years. The other songs though... They defenitely land, but there's no new song I'm coming back to. 1989 is often OK good, sounding a little impersonal, but it's astoundingly perfect at times.

it tool one pop album to make Taylor Swift the queen of pop - this is the power that 1989 had. It conquered the world for Taylor and is now a pop classic, right there with Madonna and Michael's best work.

1989 is the pinnacle of pop. It is sleek and stylish and catchy, everything you want from a pop album. ‘Blank Space’, ‘Style’ and ‘All You Had To Do Was Stay’ are some if my favourite pop tracks of all time. Sticking to catchy bass lines and easily danceable beats. (Not forgetting ‘New Romantics’ and ‘I Know Places’!)

What truly puts Swift’s fifth full-length in its own class is the combination of brilliant songwriting and incredible production. Those two strengths come together throughout «1989», but no track showcases it better than «Out of the Woods».

With 1989 she has succeeded in leveraging the most cordial and familiar of pop music outpourings to something that feels like a statement, a work of note and the sinew of some kind of emotional connective tissue–binding tastemakers, rock critics, guys I work with and my 12 year old cousin; irrevocably and unexpectedly.
